The Truth Is …

Are you believing something that is absolutely not true?

Is it throwing you into a tailspin of discouragement, unbelief, and despair?

Oh yes, your circumstances are adverse. No question about it. And yes, everything seems stacked against you. But in the midst of it all, step back and say out loud what you know is true from God’s perspective in His Word.

Pray David’s prayer in Psalm 25:4 —

Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
Psalm 25:4

Oh what a wonderful prayer this is for any of us who find ourselves wrestling with emotion and circumstances that seem to challenge us to the core of our soul. No wonder David began Psalm 25 praying, “To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.” Sometimes it’s the soul that’s in trouble. Lift it up to the Lord and ask Him to guide you into His truth. Open the pages of His Word and begin to build an arsenal of truth to stand on when you are wallowing in unbelief.

Begin by saying, “The truth is …” And then lay out all the truth you know from God’s Word.

The truth is … that God promises to provide for you and meet all your needs (Philippians 4:19).
The truth is … that God will never leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).
The truth is … that God will accomplish what concerns you (Psalm 138:8).
The truth is … that He does have a future and a hope for you (Jeremiah 29:11).
The truth is … that He does love you (John 3:16).
The truth is … that He will cause all things to work together for good (Romans 8:28).
The truth is … that nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:35-39).

One morning before dawn, my coffee clutched in my hand, and deep in thought about some particularly challenging circumstances, I happened to look out the window. What I saw encouraged my soul. There was a blanket of feathery clouds forming a spray of patterns in the grey glimmer of a new day’s light. I knew it was going to be another amazing desert sunrise. So I grabbed my camera and tripod, jumped in the car, and raced to my favorite place to capture this sunrise opportunity. I set up and waited in the dark. Waited patiently. Then suddenly the clouds began to light up, seemingly one cloud at a time until the whole sky was filled with color and the hope of a new day.

That’s the way it is when you begin to live in God’s Word and bombard your mind and heart and soul with His truth. His truth fills the landscape of your mind and heart and chases away the lies you are believing that send your soul downward into discouragement and despair.

Know this, dear friend. You honor your Lord and bring Him great glory when you hold to the truths you know and believe from His Word even as they are challenged to the very core of your soul in the furnace of suffering. So stand strong today and add to your list of statements that begin with “The truth is …”.

God bless you dear friend, as you continue on in the great adventure of knowing Him.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
