Hilltop Vista @ Fiesole Italy

Just for fun!

Even avid photographers as excited as Catherine Martin (that would be me) take a break. It had been a stellar day. If you’ve ever traveled to Florence, Italy, and taken the bus (yes, you can take the Number 7 ATAF Florence city bus) or hired a taxi up to the ancient Roman ruins hill town of Fiesole (pronounced fee-AY-zaw-lay) above the Florentine valley, then you know what I mean. Not withstanding the Monastery of San Francesco and the Vincigliata Castle, the spectacular Roman baths and amphitheatre were the center of photographic attention. It was a busy day of photography for I had in mind the first seeds of what would become the myPhotoWalk Devotional Photography project — the photography of God’s great creation as a devotional and evangelical vehicle. The images captured on this trip will be post-processed to inspire in Devotional Photography eBooks and other print and electronic resources published by Quiet Time Ministries.

What do you think was the first thing I did when my Second Body (that would be my husband) finished the shot? I aimed right at that exotic bird making those beautiful chirping sounds from above. Never miss a shot!

♥ God bless you in the great adventure of knowing Him!

Fiesole is a town and commune of the province of Florence in the Italian region of Tuscany, on a scenic height above Florence, 8 kilometres northeast of that city. Fiesole (Etruscan Viesul, Viśl, Vipsul) was probably founded in the 9th-8th century BC, as it was an important member of the Etruscan confederacy, as may be seen from the remains of its ancient walls. The first recorded mention on the town dates to 283 BC, when the town, then known as Faesulae, was conquered by the Romans. In pagan antiquity it was the seat of a famous school of augurs, and every year twelve young men were sent thither from Rome to study the art of divination. Sulla colonized it with veterans, who afterwards, under the leadership of Gaius Mallius, supported the cause of Catilina. Christianity was introduced to Fiesole by St. Romulus, a disciple of St. Peter. The fact that the ancient cathedral (now the Abbazia Fiesolana) stands outside the city is a evidence that the Christian origins of Fiesole date from the period of the persecutions.
