Sedona Bell Rock Plateau

Just for fun!

This is a pristine clear May day in the low 80s, a refreshing cool morning breeze encouraging our trek. We are perched on a gigantic lower level slab of quintessential Sedona red rock about a hundred feet above the valley floor on historic Bell Rock with 360 degree panoramas that simply boggle the mind. I’m adjusting the Nikon D7000 pointing away from Courthouse Butte in the background toward majestic Cathedral Rock much further west trying to catch just the right amount of light glimmering off the rock. A generous Quiet Time Ministries donor set up this Photo Shoot as a myPhotoWalk adventure to capture hundreds of stills to be used for our new responsive high resolution website launched in March, 2014, and for a new venture of myPhotoWalk Devotional Photography eBooks.

So many shots and so little time! Ah, livin’ the dream!

♥ God bless you in the great adventure of knowing Him!

Bell Rock is a popular tourist attraction just north of the Village of Oak Creek, Arizona, south of Sedona in Yavapai County. Its summit elevation is 4,919 feet (1,499 m), just west of Courthouse Butte. Geologically, Bell Rock is a butte, composed of horizontally bedded sedimentary rock of the Permian Supai Formation. The flat loop hiking trail around Courthouse Butte passes not only Bell Rock but also the lesser known Spaceship Rock formations, and features coyote tracks and millions of wildflowers in bloom. This area is home to many cottontails and very large jack rabbits with long ears. Javelinas also live here. They look like furry pigs with a large snout and reddish eyes. Lizards can easily be seen as they scurry around the landscape or rest on a rock in the sun. Hummingbirds can appear suddenly as they fly from tree to tree. Hawks and sometimes eagles can be seen in the skies of Sedona.

Video captured on the fly by my “Second Body” (that would be my husband) using a Canon Power Shot S95 @ 720p/24fps with only 10 megapixels – okay, so it isn’t Red Cinema 5K resolution, but the upscale to 1080p Cineform codec with unsharp mask in Sony Vegas Pro gets us in the ballpark.
