Try A Thankful Heart

I was driving down the road the other day and suddenly I was overwhelmed with a wave of thankfulness.

You know how it is when something unexpected bombards your mind. For me, it was a sudden case of grateful thanks to the Lord for the big things and the seemingly insignificant things — all gifts of God’s grace in my life.

So I just began thanking the Lord, out loud, one by one, for everything that came to my mind. Several miles later, I was still thanking Him.

Even in the midst of needs, difficulties, and many responsibilities, a person can always find something in their life where they can say, “Thank You Lord.” Even Paul encouraged the suffering church in Philippi with these words —

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

I know those verses by memory, but today I notice the part about thanking God. Even when you are desperate with worry, try a thankful heart in the midst of your trouble. There are ways God is providing for you that you may not see right now. He is blessing you and protecting you though you may not realize how or where. God is always at work. He promises. Paul encouraged the Philippians about God’s work in their lives: “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns” (Philippians 1:6 NLT).

This morning I was out walking with the Lord in the desert at sunrise. Again, I thought I’d try a thankful heart. I’m amazed how quickly my heart moves to a place of delight in the Lord when I focus on His blessings and grace in my life. Try it sometime. You’ll be glad you did. This week is a great place to start as we celebrate Thanksgiving.

So dear friend, try a thankful heart. And may you have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with God’s peace, grace, love, and joy.

God bless you dear friend, as you continue on in the great adventure of knowing Him.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
