The Beautiful Place

Where does your mind go when the things of this world are just too much with us?

What do you think about to help you maintain an eternal perspective and live with hope as you journey through your days?

I found a small group of verses to help me understand this need to focus my thoughts in life. Listen to these great words from Paul —

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all His glory.
Colossians 3:1-4 NLT

These are profound words for us. What we learn is that our real life is not only a place (heaven), but also a Person (the Lord Jesus Christ).

I call this the beautiful place.

Heaven is our home and Jesus is our life —

  • When you realize that heaven is your home, then you don’t hold on to things here on earth. You can more easily keep your hands open and allow the Lord to provide for you, moment by moment.
  • When you realize Christ is your life, then you keep your eyes fixed on Him, and follow Him as He leads and guides you, day by day. You listen for His voice as He speaks in His Word.

The result is that you experience the renewal and refreshment of a truly beautiful place. For there is no one so lovely as the Lord Jesus and nothing so beautiful as your eternal heavenly home.

Do you know these truths today? Are you living in their reality as you go along on your journey here on earth?

A number of years ago, we spent two weeks in Florence, Italy. And during our time there, we traveled all through the beautiful hill towns of Tuscany. There are so many charming places where you can just sit and experience a special beauty and peace. Just outside the town of Montepulciano is San Biagio, a church from the late Renaissance. Its design was used by Michelangelo as an example for St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. I remember walking the grounds and just drinking in the beauty and peace of this place. I felt like just lying down on the grass and looking up at the sky. It was a beautiful day I’ll never forget.

When we set our sights on the realities of heaven and draw near to the Lord Jesus, our heart is refreshed and we gain the benefits of the beautiful place of God. You might think of this beautiful place as a spa for the soul.

So today, dear friend, take some time in the beautiful place of your Lord. Think about the reality of heaven — an eternal place that will never change. The Lord is preparing a place for you even now where you will live with Him forever. Nothing can touch those realities. No amount of trial or suffering can even compare with the glory that is going to be revealed to us according to Paul in Romans 8:18. And gaze on the beauty of your Lord. As you begin to experience His love for you and His grace and joy, you will find hope and help in your present circumstance. Every promise He gives you in His Word is a lamp for your feet and a light on your path in the beautiful place of the Lord.

God bless you, dear friend, as you continue on in the great adventure of knowing Him.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
