The Joy Of His Presence

Sometimes you need to step away from everything and withdraw into the presence of the Lord — especially when you are walking in a valley of sorrow or a desert of disappointment.

God’s presence is almost indescribable for He is infinite and eternal. There is always more to know about Him than you have ever experienced. When you get away from the distractions especially when you are discouraged, and you draw near to God, you will find He is all-sufficient and all-knowing. He will pour mercy and grace into your heart and give you fresh joy in His presence.

Yes, there is joy in His presence, for He is filled with joy. After Jesus spoke words of exhortation to encourage His disciples to abide in Him, He said, “These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full” (John 15:11).

David, the man after God’s own heart, discovered that the Lord was always with him, and that there was great joy in God’s presence —

LORD, You alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. The land You have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance! I will bless the LORD who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety. For You will not leave my soul among the dead or allow Your holy one to rot in the grave. You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of Your presence and the pleasures of living with You forever.
Psalm 16:5-11 NLT

Recently, I packed my quiet time materials, my Nikon D800E and other camera gear, and I drove to my favorite place — Sedona, Arizona. It was my first Mother’s Day with my precious, beloved mother in heaven. So I drew near to the Lord and opened the pages of His Word. I opened to the psalms, my favorite place to live when I am in a valley of sorrow, sadness, or suffering. God was faithful to meet me with His joy.

Joy is a gladness coming from the Lord and is independent of circumstances. I have found that sitting with the Lord as I open His Word and talk with Him brings this peaceful, settled, gladness enabling me to continue on in the path He leads me in life.

I wonder if there is someone reading this today who needs to draw near to the Lord and experience the joy of His presence. Grab your Bible, dear friend, and be still and know that He is God. You will find Him to be more than you can imagine and all-sufficient for whatever you face today.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
