When You Just Don’t Know
I’ve been thinking a lot about faith these days.
The last two years for me have been filled with many earthly losses — my faith has been tested more than I could ever have imagined.
I’ve discovered there are times when you don’t have the answer and you don’t even know how to take the next step.
These are the times when you just don’t know.
There is a verse that the Lord keeps bringing to my mind —
Sometimes the trial is so painful and challenging that you can lose sight of eternal realities you know are true in God’s Word. And again, you just don’t know. Maybe you’ve lost a loved one. Maybe you’ve lost financial security or earthly support. You don’t know how life goes on without those dear loved ones present with you. You don’t know how you will pay the bills. You don’t know how you can make it without some kind of help. And the list goes on and on. You just don’t know.
And while you may not know the answers to those questions there are truths you can know because God has given you His Word filled with promises of who He is and what He can and will do. When you just don’t know, you need to open the Bible and find out all there is that you can know.
And whatever it is you are facing today, I encourage you to think of Hebrews 11:6 and you will know what the Lord wants you to know. He wants you to know He indeed is with you. And though you may not know any solutions, you can be absolutely assured that He knows, He has a plan, and He intends to accomplish it in and through you. In Hebrews 11:6, you discover that He wants you to seek Him. And He wants you to know He will answer every prayer you take to His throne of grace. He promises to be a “rewarder” of those who seek Him. He promises. And when you just don’t know, the wonderful fruit of seeking God is something you can know. This is not a matter of feelings, but of facts found in His Word.
I got up early and went out into the desert to capture some images of the full moon. As I focused on its beauty my heart was filled with assurance of the presence of the Lord. He is Creator of heaven and earth. If He can speak heaven and earth into existence, then He has an answer when I just don’t know.
So today, dear friend, look up into the face of your Lord and seek Him in your difficulty. Then keep your eyes and ears open for His answer in His time and in His way. You will discover your faith growing deeper and resting more resolutely on His unchanging Word.
