Jesus Christ In Action

What happens when we step out in faith and do what God asks of us? We get to see Jesus Christ in action!

I have a special world map that has become an inspiration for me, my Quiet Time Ministries staff, and faithful donors to Quiet Time Ministries. I spoke of this world map in the Vision For The World video message just released by simulpost on October 7, 2015, through Quiet Time Ministries, The Quiet Time Live Channel @ YouTube, and all our social media outlets. Vision For The World is a deeply personal video message answering the question, “What is on the heart of God, today?” This video acts as the the kickoff for the Vision For The World Campaign sponsored for Quiet Time Ministries. I am also simulposting a new educational and inspirational A Heart For Ministry video series each week for four weeks in October, 2015 — absolutely free that includes downloadable Message Notes and a downloadable Quiet Time devotion to complement the video presentation. This is a spectacular opportunity to experience an inspirational and educational series about Jesus Christ In Action, your calling to a personal ministry, and how you can be involved with Quiet Time Ministries. I am so excited to see what God is going to do as a result. I look forward to sharing with thousands all for the glory of God!

As you can see, this map of the USA, part of my Quiet Time Ministries world map, contains pins representing individuals and groups who have studied God’s Word using resources from Quiet Time Ministries. I want to share this map as an encouragement for all my brothers and sisters in the Lord, and especially for those who may be facing challenges in their lives and ministry. To me this map represents Jesus Christ in action in the world. It reminds me that no matter what happens in our lives, God has a plan and a purpose for our lives, and He is faithful to carry it out.

There is a tangible ripple effect that the Lord Jesus creates, where He uses us to touch a lost and hurting world, change lives, and produce fruit that lasts forever.

We need to remember the truths we have been taught by God in His Word whenever we feel discouraged or disheartened. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Welsh minister for 30 years at Westminster Chapel in London, spoke often about the importance of always holding to the sovereignty of God in our lives. God is sovereign and in control. When I look at this map, I remember that God accomplishes a mighty work in and through our lives. No matter what, He has something amazing and incredible in mind for us, though we may not see how all the pieces fit together. It’s a promise we need to believe, receive, and live out every day — even in dark nights of the soul that most certainly come our way in certain seasons of life and ministry.

The apostle Paul launched out in ministry and the fruit of Jesus Christ in action through his life continues to this day. He was faced with incredible trials during his ministry as evidenced by his writings in 2 Corinthians 4:8-10, 16-17.

We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. … Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison
Paul in 2 Corinthians 4:8-1,16-17

Paul is the one who wrote words of encouragement specifically related to ministry. We need to remember these words at every point in our lives.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:58

When God is doing the work, the ripple effect goes on and on and on well past our own earthly lives.

I like to define ministry as Jesus Christ in action. Why this definition? Because the work is His, not ours. And aren’t you glad, because it means no weakness, no failure, no obstacle is so great that He is not greater still. In fact, we learn from Paul that God’s power is actually perfected in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). This is why we need to know what God’s Word says, because His ways are so much higher, greater and deeper than the ways of the world.

We learn a life-changing principle from Paul in Galatians 2:20 — “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” This phrase that stands out for me in this verse right now is that Christ lives in me. Amazing things can happen when Christ is at work in and through our lives. In God’s timing, with the Lord at work, He is “able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine, according to the power at work in us” (Ephesians 3:20).

A perfect example of this is found in Luke 5:1-7 where the disciples were fishing all night, working hard, and at the end of their night, they caught nothing. The Lord said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch” (Luke 5:4). The disciples did not see the sense in Jesus’ statement because they had just come back from an unfruitful fishing trip. It’s been said that insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Maybe the disciples were thinking something along those same lines. However, they had been with Jesus long enough to know that amazing and exciting things happened when He was at work. So they did what He asked. They cast out the net. And they caught so many fish that their nets began to break. Peter was in awe and fell at the feet of Jesus. The text reads, “amazement had seized him and all his companions because of the catch of fish which they had taken” (Luke 5:9).

Jesus said, “Do not fear, from now on you will be catching men” ((Luke 5:10). Oh I love that statement so much! There is just nothing so exciting as seeing the Lord at work in and through us as He changes lives.

The ripple effect at work even now is ongoing though we may not see it. G.D. Watson, in his book, Soul Food says —

God loves to take the most forlorn failures and turn them into successes. God loves to work in such a way as to outwit all the wise. By His gentle omnipotence, He takes disappointment, failure, trouble, desolation, and all sorts of losses, and out of them coins the gold of victory and success…Notwithstanding our failure all night, “at Thy word we will let down the net.” (Peter’s words in Luke 5:5). This was simple faith embodied in obedience. Obedience is the body in which the soul of faith lives and moves…This same Jesus stands on our sea of life, waiting for us to yield an utter obedience, and willing to do in us and for us “exceedingly abundantly above our asking or thinking” (Ephesians 3:20).
G.D. Watson, Soul Food

Would you like to be part of something that lasts forever? I believe that God is standing on the sea of our lives even now, wanting to do more than we can ask or imagine. I would love for you to listen as I share my heart in Vision For The World. I am believing God for something big for Quiet Time Ministries. And I am inviting you to be part of it. As I share this message, think of all the pins in the Quiet Time Ministries world map representing changed lives. There are thousands more to be added well beyond what is on this map — people unknown to me, but well known to the Lord. Let’s join together and see what God can do. Become a Vision For The World monthly donor. And I believe we will experience the same thing those disciples experienced – amazement and awe.
