Refreshed By Living Water

Are you thirsty, today, dear friend?

Do you need refreshment in the midst of what has become a dry and difficult desert in your life?

The Lord invites you to “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters” (Isaiah 55:1 NIV).

When you continue reading His words you understand what He is really inviting you to experience —

Listen to Me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. Come to Me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.
Isaiah 55:2-3 NLT

He is inviting you to the rich, satisfying experience of feasting on His Word. He invites us to listen. That word in the Hebrew means to pay attention, hear, and understand. This implies taking time with God’s Word in such a way that you are living in it. In fact, you might imagine you are like this mallard duck and are diving in and swimming in it and having the time of your life.

Do you know how to live in God’s Word this way?

Learn to slow down with passages of Scripture. Look for everything you learn about God in a chapter in the Bible. Write out what you learn in your journal or Quiet Time Notebook. If you find a phrase that is meaningful to you, then consider cross-referencing the verse and looking at other passages of Scripture that relate and expand your understanding. For example, just the other day, I read Genesis 21:33 and learned that Abraham called upon the name of the Lord, “the Everlasting God.” I thought, “I’d like to learn more about what the Bible has to say about the Everlasting God.” I ended up with seven verses to read and study. I wrote all my insights in my Quiet Time Notebook on a Reference Study page. I ended up having a rich time with my Everlasting God and grew closer to Him as a result.

I believe the Holy Spirit becomes our teacher and guide whenever we open the Bible and live in it. He causes words and phrases to become significant to us because He has something to teach us.

Jeremiah discovered the wealth of God’s Word when he said, “Your words were found and I ate them, and Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart; For I have been called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts” (Jeremiah 15:16).

So today, if you are feeling in need of some refreshment, become a Jeremiah and feast on God’s Word. Come to the living waters and drink. Become saturated by God and His Word and your soul will be nourished and enriched.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
