God Is In The Details

God delights in every detail of your life.

You walk out in God’s creation everyday, but are you missing the trees for the forest? I know that’s an inverse metaphor, but the questions remains. Do you notice the beauty of even the smallest of things of God’s creation — like the grains of sand in the desert or the lines in the leaves of the trees?

On a recent myPhotoWalk photo shoot at The Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades, California, I was admiring the manicured landscape and searching for interesting photographic subjects — perhaps the grand architecture (a recreation of an ancient Roman country house) or the sparkling water of the fountains. But then, along the path, something at first glance unremarkable caught my eye. I bent down with my camera to inspect what was ostensibly an innocuous small shrub, a flowerless plant. What suddenly struck me was the intricacy of the design — God’s design. I focused in through the lens of my camera and the colors and patterns became even more inspiring and breathtaking to me. Perhaps this is how God sees His own creation?

I couldn’t help but express to my Lord about what I was observing. I prayed, “Father, You really are incredible. You have Your hand in every little detail.”

And then, Psalm 37:23-24 came to mind —

The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand.
Psalm 37:23-24 NLT

In these words, we see that God is truly in the details, especially the details of our lives. He sees everything, knows everything, and has a plan and a purpose, in the small and large events of our journey.

Just think about all the details involved in His provision for salvation. John 3:16 is the promise and the picture of all the details —

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
John 3:16-17

According to these verses, we see God’s great love in the details of His plan of salvation for us by giving His only begotten Son. God is in the details and His love is seen throughout His plan and purpose for our lives.

Perhaps there are times when you wonder if God really sees or knows the things you are facing in your life. And maybe you sometimes even question His care or compassion.

Never doubt it for a second, dear friend. He loves You and “delights in every detail” of your life (Psalm 37:23). That’s a promise you can take all the way to the spiritual bank.

So draw near to Him today and lay out every prayer and every desire of your heart. Pour out your soul to the One who loves you most. Then, watch for Him to answer in the small and large details of your life. And when you see His provision, be sure to draw near to Him, thank Him, and worship with great amazement and awe, saying, “That was You Lord, wasn’t it! To You be the glory!”
