The Nearness Of God

Do you ever feel as though no one understands you?

Though you may feel alone, you are not alone.

I love the promise from the Lord to His disciples in Matthew 28:20, “And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Remember this. God is always near.

The psalmist Asaph, after wrestling with difficulties in life, finally concluded —

But as for me, how good it is to be near God! I have made the Sovereign LORD my shelter, and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things You do.
Psalm 73:28 NLT

Do you daily experience the wonder, beauty, and goodness of being close to God and intimate with Him? He truly is everything you need for every circumstance of life. You can cry out to Him in good times and troubled times. He is with you wherever you go.

Many times on a myPhotoWalk photo shoot, I am struck with a truth from God’s Word as reflected through the lens of my camera. I’ll see something dramatic and a verse will pop in my mind, so I’ll pair the verse with the image and publish the photograph at the myPhotoWalk — SmugMug Portfolio. And so it was on a particular sunny morning at The Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades, CA, an architectural masterpiece built by J. Paul Getty according to the design of an ancient seaside villa at Herculaneum in Italy. I soon reached the Outer Peristyle adorned with hedge–lined pathways and circular stone benches. Bay laurel, boxwood, myrtle, ivy, and oleander are planted around a spectacular 220–foot reflecting pool. Bronze sculptures, replicas of statues found at the Villa dei Papiri, are placed dramatically. But what struck me was the peristyle itself, a covered walkway that surrounds the formal garden and leads visitors past recreated wall paintings to the formal Italian garden. The colonnade and tile perspective jumps right up and grabs you, inviting you to capture many images and stroll down the length of the passageway. I could imagine I was walking this path with Jesus himself.

So to me, this idyllic garden walk is a picture of the opportunity and experience that is available for us every day with God. Of course, we can walk down the highways and byways of this world mentally blindfolded and miss the extravagant garden of God. Or we can walk purposefully into the garden of grace and spend time with the Lord, gaining an eternal perspective — God’s perspective — and find strength, comfort, and encouragement in every situation.

So today, dear friend, will you walk into the garden of God’s grace and spend time with Him? Then you will be able to say along with the psalmist, “How good it is to be near God!”

God bless you, dear friend, as you continue on in the great adventure of knowing Him.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
