Beauty For Ashes

Beauty for ashes. Blessing and joy for mourning. Praise for despair.

There comes a day when the flower opens up in response to the water and light. And the beauty shines in the darkness.

When you walk with the Lord, you experience His supernatural healing and comfort and encouragement, moving you through the valleys of the shadow to a place of growth and blossom.

It’s not easy in the season of the valley. I know this from personal experience having walked this journey myself over the last year. A year ago this month, my precious mother went home to be with the Lord and oh, how I miss her here on earth. I know intimately the season of the valley.

But in that season, dear friend, you are not alone. Jesus is with you. He never leaves you or forsakes you. That’s a promise in the Bible (Hebrews 13:5). He says, “Lo, I am with you always…” (Matthew 28:20) — words you can take to the spiritual bank (as I always say). And what I mean by that is that we can take that promise and count on it in our deepest, darkest moments in life.

This flower shows me the beauty for ashes. I love this promise in God’s Word —

Provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.
Isaiah 61:3 NIV

My word this year is Jesus. And my verse is Philippians 3:8 where I am learning to count all things as loss compared with the priceless privilege of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Here is what I am discovering as I draw near to Him and walk more closely with Him. He is the One I can count on. He never leaves me. He keeps His promises. And He gives me His grace, mercy, and love every moment. He helps me have hope, holding on with patient expectation, just when I seem ready to give up. He is faithful.

He is the One who causes us to have that bloom of growth, making us into a beautiful masterpiece in His garden of grace. He gives beauty for ashes, blessing and joy for mourning, and praise for despair.

So dear friend, if you find yourself in a valley these days, draw near and sit with Jesus for awhile. Open the pages of His Word, the Bible, and discover the beauty and comfort of His promises. May you continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18).

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
