Run Before The Wind OLS — Introduction Week

Do you need strength, power, guidance and provision in your life right now?

Maybe you are about to give up because you know in your heart of hearts that you are not enough for the tasks at hand and the difficulties you are experiencing.

You feel weak and you are falling into discouragement and despair.

Oh, dear friend, I want you to know that if you know the Lord Jesus Christ, you have a power in you that is greater than yourself. This is such great news for us to discover and know every day of our lives. And I can’t wait to study what it means to live in the power of the Holy Spirit together with you in Run Before The Wind — Truths From Acts To Enjoy Life In The Spirit.

So do you need power and strength in your life right now? Do you need God’s guidance and help in your life right now? Do you long for an abundant and victorious life?

Those are the questions I want to ask as we begin our Ministry For Women — Google+ Community Online Bible Study of Run Before The Wind.

Jesus spent a good amount of time telling His disciples that He was going to send them a Comforter — a Helper who would be with them forever (John 14:16). It’s important to understand the context of this wonderful promise. Jesus had just told His disciples that He would be going away. He told them of the upcoming betrayal and difficulties to come. The disciples became greatly troubled. And so, Jesus told them about the Holy Spirit and the amazing life that would be possible because of the Holy Spirit.

In John 3:8 Jesus likened the work of the Holy Spirit to wind. In 2 Peter 1:21 we see that the prophets were “carried along” by the Holy Spirit. This Greek word is phero and is used in Acts 27:15 to show the surrender of a ship to the force of the wind. There is a nautical term called “bearaway” and it means to change the course of ship so she can “run before the wind.”

Oh friend, that’s what needs to happen in us. We need to surrender to the forceful wind of the Holy Spirit in our life and be carried along by the Lord Jesus as He accomplishes His plan and purpose in us. That is really what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit. It is the great secret to living the victorious, abundant life promised to us by Jesus.

Dear friend, I can’t wait to study Run Before The Wind with you because I need these truths from God’s Word so very much. I need every verse, every quote and book excerpt, every prayer, and the time to think and study what it means to enjoy life in the Spirit. We are going to discover this and so much more as we live in the book of Acts and other areas of Scripture in this study.

Your quiet time is very important throughout our time together. I encourage you to set aside a time, find a quiet place, and then enjoy the experience of The PRAYER Quiet Time Plan in Run Before The Wind — Prepare Your Heart, Read and Study God’s Word, Adore God In Prayer, Yield Yourself To God, Enjoy His Presence, and Rest In His Love. Choose a Bible translation that is easy for you to understand. Some of my favorites are the New American Standard Bible (Updated Edition), the New Living Translation, the New International Version, the Holman Christian Standard Bible, The New King James Bible, and the English Standard Version. Every morning you want to sit with the Lord, open His Word, and do a day of study in Run Before The Wind. The study is filled with prayers, hymns, devotional Bible study, excerpts from classic devotional books, and more. Oh how exciting our quiet time will be as we sit with the Lord every day.

I love the exhortation in Romans 12:2. I shared it at the beginning of our last study and I want to share it again because it is so powerful for us as we begin this study —

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Romans 12:2 NLT

I invite you to get ready for God to work in your heart — He will change the way you think with His Word, fill you with the power of His Spirit, give you a heart of joy, peace, and strength, and literally transform your life. Oh how I need this in my own life. I can’t wait to see what the Lord is going to do in all of our lives!

Dear friend, get ready for the adventure of your life. May we all run before the wind and experience real and abundant life — life in the Spirit!

In our first week of study we are going to look at what it means to have life — real life — in the Spirit. This is a good preparation for our amazing journey into the book of Acts and our discovery of the great adventure we have before us to “run before the wind” of the Holy Spirit. I will meet you back here with a new post and discussion question on Saturday, April 16, 2016.

And now, here is a prayer from The Valley Of Vision to prepare our hearts as we study God’s Word together in Run Before The Wind

I am blind, be thou my light,
ignorant, be thou my wisdom,
self-willed, be thou my mind.
Open my ear to grasp quickly thy Spirit’s voice,
and delightfully run after his beckoning hand;
Melt my conscience that no hardness remain,
make it alive to evil’s slightest touch;
When Satan approaches may I flee to thy wounds,
and there cease to tremble at all alarms.
Be my good shepherd to lead me into the green pastures of thy Word,
and cause me to lie down beside the rivers of its comforts.
Fill me with peace, that no disquieting worldly gales
may ruffle the calm surface of my soul.
Thy cross was upraised to be my refuge,
Thy blood streamed forth to wash me clean,
Thy death occurred to give me a surety,
Thy name is my property to save me,
By thee all heaven is poured into my heart,
but it is too narrow to comprehend thy love.
I was a stranger, an outcast, a slave, a rebel,
but thy cross has brought me near,
has softened my heart,
has made me thy Father’s child,
has admitted me to thy family,
has made me joint-heir with thyself.
O that I may love thee as thou lovest me,
that I may walk worthy of thee, my Lord,
that I may reflect the image of heaven’s first-born.
May I always see thy beauty with the clear eye of faith,
and feel the power of thy Spirit in my heart,
for unless he move mightily in me,
no inward fire will be kindled.
A Prayer from The Valley Of Vision

I was challenged by your statement to run before the wind — what a beautiful visual picture of how we are to be running in the race. How exciting to know that God is challenging you to run with Him, keeping your eyes fixed upon Him so that you will not become weary in the work that is yours and yours alone. … How exciting to have a devotional guide that is so spiritually focused and so biblically based.
