Hanging On

Are you wondering what the Lord is doing in your life?

Are you in a place where you don’t understand what is happening?

And yet, you have a certain confidence that He is working out His plan and purpose though you cannot see where He is taking you.

Dear friend, hang on. Hang on to His Word. Hang on to His promises. Hang on to Him. With all that you are — heart and soul — hang on!

God is doing a work in you that is greater than you can imagine. How do I know? He promises.

“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

There are times when the work is of such depth and detail and beauty and wonder that the Master Designer keeps that work to Himself until the day comes when all will be seen.

These words by James McConkey about God as the Master Diamond Cutter speak to the master design and plan of God —

So, sometimes, God lets a stinging blow fall upon your life. The blood spurts. The nerves wince. The soul cries out in agony. The blow seems to you an apalling mistake. But it is not, for you are the most priceless jewel in the world to God. And He is the most skilled lapidary in the universe. Some day you are to blaze in the diadem of the King. As you lie in His hand now He knows just how to deal with you. Not a blow will be permitted to fall upon your shrinking soul but that the love of God permits it, and works out from its depths, blessing and spiritual enrichment unseen, and unthought of by you.
James McConkey in Streams in the Desert

Job, who endured deep suffering and trials, discovered the powerful work and sovereign hand of God when he said, “Who among all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this” (Job 12:9).

The writer of Hebrews encouraged a group of believers who had endured great suffering and were on the verge of giving in to discouragement as the fire of their trial raged longer than they imagined. Here is God’s Word for any blessed saint who is hanging on even in the midst of challenging days —

Do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY. BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.
Hebrews 10:35-38

I love these words in Hebrews. God is encouraging us in these words to hang on with confidence and endurance. Keeping doing His will, step by step, day by day, though you do not know what the future may hold. And here’s the big lesson for us all: “My righteous one shall live by faith” (Hebrews 10:38).

Do you see it, my friend? We live by faith. We hang on by faith to His Word.

A fragile hummingbird hangs on to a seemingly small branch. As it hangs on, it is held up. Resting. Content. At peace.

God and His Word will hold you up as you hang on. So, dear friend, drink in God’s promises, one at a time, and be filled with confidence and endurance today. In God’s time, you will see the fruit of your faith in Him. And oh, what glory will come as a result.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
