The Freedom Of Faith

There is a certain freedom that comes from choosing faith over fear.

We can sit in one place and shake in panic and terror at the seeming uncertainty and unknown contained in our circumstances.

Or we can grab hold of God’s promises, turn our eyes to their truth, and walk by faith in what God says, one step at a time.

When we know the truth, Jesus says, “the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).

True freedom in Christ will allow you to fly above and through the storm. You will, as Peter experienced in a very real way, walk on water with Jesus (Matthew 14:22-33).

I recently stood on cliff’s edge at Corona Del Mar State Beach, California, high above the coastal water and watched the waves surging, foaming, and crashing against the sand and rocks. And then I saw this spirited gull soaring high above, the wind lifting its wings carrying it higher and higher. I noticed that it was not at all affected by the ebb and flow of the tides of the water. It was free of the restless movement for it was flying high above the ocean’s roar.

I think there is a lesson in this for any of us who would like to experience victory in overwhelming circumstances. “This is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith. We need to walk by faith in the truth of God’s Word. It’s simple but also difficult to apply when the waves are crashing in around us. We need to step away, spend time with God, open His Word and discover God’s eternal perspective.

Oswald Chambers says that “Faith is the heroic effort of your life, you fling yourself in reckless confidence on God.”

Paul encourages us to rise above the temporal with his words to the Colossians —

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all His glory.
Colossians 3:1-4 NLT

These words help us know what God is asking of us as we live in the temporal of this life where the waves can come crashing in at times. He wants us to remember who we are and Whose we are. We have a new life with Christ and we are to set our sights high and literally fly above as we think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. And here is the beautiful truth. Our real life is hidden with Christ in God. Christ is our life.

I love these words from Mrs. Charles Cowman —

The Shepherd does not ask of thee
Faith in thy faith, but only faith in Him;
And this He meant in saying, “Come to me.”
In light or darkness seek to do His will,
And leave the work of faith to Jesus still.
Mrs. Charles Cowman in Streams In The Desert

So, dear friend, remember today the truth of God’s Word, choose faith over fear, grab a promise, and fly in the freedom of faith in all that God says.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
