Drawing Near To God

Have you found a place of quiet rest where you can draw near to God?

There is such great value in drawing near to the Lord.

You will be renewed and refreshed as you focus on God. And you will experience His presence.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8 NKJV).

Oh what a promise for today, tomorrow, and always! When you draw near to God, He will draw near to you.

Just think — no matter where you are right now, you have the promise of the nearness of God when you come close to Him.

Consider the Six Secrets of The PRAYER™ Quiet Time Plan, introduced in Six Secrets To A Powerful Quiet Time, and a favorite devotional tool for all devoted quiet time fans.

Each day’s verse, devotional thought, and prayer will encourage you to sit at Jesus’ feet and take in His Word. myPhotoWalk Devotional Photography, captured at many exquisite locations, enhances every daily devotion, inviting you to linger in God’s presence. By the time you finish this devotional photographic journey, you will have gathered up a wealth of spiritual riches.

Read and Study God’s Word. Open the pages of the Bible and live in a passage of Scripture. You will discover a new sense of God’s presence as you experience personal spiritual revival. The psalmist wrote, “This is my comfort in my affliction, that Your word has revived me” (Psalm 119:50).

Adore God in Prayer. You can sit and talk with God about all that is on your heart and mind today. Jeremiah encourages you to “pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord” (Lamentations 2:19 NIV).

Yield Yourself To God. Take time with the Lord to give way to His ways. I will often write a short prayer expressing all that is on my heart. Such as, Lord, keep my dreams and desires withing the boundaries of Your plans. Enable me to be faithful and reflect You to those around me. (Romans 12:1-2)

Enjoy His Presence. Carry what you’ve learned with you through the whole day and practice the Lord’s presence moment by moment, enjoying Him. For me, this is often a significant insight from Scripture that I bring to mind throughout the day. For example, Colossians 3:16 encourages that God wants me to dwell on eternal truths found in His Word.

Rest In His Love. Carry that sense of rest and trust in who God is, what God does, and what He says with you throughout the day. For me, I often remember a promise from God’s Word such as Philippians 4:13: I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.

I recently had the wonderful opportunity to visit a beautiful rose garden in Newport Beach, California. The first image I captured with my Nikon D810 camera was simply an overall view of the garden showing a countless array of elegant roses. Then, I switched to my Micro-Nikkor 200mm lens for some close-up and macro views. What a surprise! I suddenly gained a whole new view — a deep joy and appreciation at the folds, colors, and unique beauty of every rose. Each individual rose now seemed to have a special blend of petals, color, every one enhanced by the raindrops after an early morning spring rain.

You experience a whole new world when you draw near for a closer view.

And so it is when we draw near to God. We experience Him in new ways and discover who He is, what He does, and what He says. And we are refreshed, revived, and renewed for every season of our lives.

I love these words in Streams In The Desert

Often the Lord calls us aside from our work for a season, and bids us be still and learn ere we go forth In again to minister. There is no time lost in such waiting hours. Fleeing from his enemies, the ancient knight found that his horse needed to be re-shod. Prudence seemed to urge him on without delay, but higher wisdom taught him to halt a few minutes at the blacksmith’s forge by the way, to have the shoe replaced; and although he heard the feet of his pursuers galloping hard behind, yet he waited those minutes until his charger was refitted for his flight. And then, leaping into his saddle just as they appeared a hundred yards away, he dashed away from them with the fleetness of the wind, and knew that his halting had hastened his escape. So often God bids us tarry ere we go, and fully recover ourselves for the next stage of the journey and work.
Mrs. Charles Cowman in Streams In The Desert

Perhaps God has called you aside in this season of your life. Take time to draw near to Him. And cherish the promise of James 4:8. He will draw near to you.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
