Staying Close To The Lord

I was out in the early morning walking in the company of my Lord, and carrying my little Sony A6000 mirrorless camera. I call this special early morning quiet time a myPhotoWalk.

myPhotoWalks are always special times with the Lord, focusing on His creation, walking and talking with Him, and making special images with my camera. Because I’m out walking I don’t carry my full-frame Nikon D810 even though it is always my first choice of camera for both quality and shooting experience. I love that camera. But I also love my little Sony for ease of use and also that amazing electronic viewfinder.

So I was out walking and I saw this mother duck with her two ducklings walking around a tree and on down towards some water. Then she stood on the edge and jumped in, immediately followed by the two ducklings. I just stood and watched them for awhile, all the time thinking about our relationship with the Lord. I noticed how closely those two ducklings stayed to their mother. There was a lesson for me in this beautiful picture in God’s creation.

We need to always stay close to the Lord. That’s what I kept thinking about all day after watching those two ducklings with their mother. We need to follow our Lord wherever He leads us. To do that, we need to stay close to Him.

Jesus taught His disciples the importance of intimacy with Him —

Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in Me. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in Me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.”
John 15:4-5 NLT

In this passage of Scripture, Jesus uses the metaphor of the vine and branches. The metaphor teaches the lesson of an intimate relationship and the results of that relationship.

The bottom line is we need to stay close to the Lord. Pay attention to a daily quiet time with your Lord where you live in His Word and converse with Him. I think about Moses and his intimate relationship with God. We learn from Exodus 33:11 that “inside the Tent of Meeting, the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend” (NLT). We need to have that quiet time where we, too, meet daily with the Lord. “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8). Our relationship with Him will grow, we will be transformed, we will trust Him more, and we will be able to follow the Lord wherever He leads us.

When you feel far away from the Lord, think about this picture of the mother duck and her two ducklings, draw near to your Lord, review spiritual encouragements from God’s Word, and make staying close to Him a priority.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
