A View From Earth

Pitch black. Then a glimmer of light. I stood out in the silent California desert, poised to capture images of the sun rising and lighting up the clouds. I knew it would be a great sunrise; clear skies had given way to scattered thunder clouds, the humidity rising from the desert floor. I had my Nikon D810 camera set up on my tripod, and my Sony A6000 slung over my shoulder just in case I want to capture some quick shots on auto focus. I was ready.

Then it happened. I looked straight up in the sky. A crescent moon peaked out from between the glowing clouds. The view of it all and the surprise of it all just took my breath away.

There I stood on earth, looking up at one of God’s creations that is 238,900 miles away. But I could see it. And the beauty of it all deeply touched my soul.

I sensed the Lord there in that moment showing me something very powerful.

We are called to look up and set our sights on something that is heavenly, yet more real than anything on earth. Paul speaks of it in Colossians 3:1-4 —

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all His glory.
Colossians 3:1-4 NLT

As you live life on earth, set your sights on the reality of heaven and your real life — life in Christ.

Life with Christ is awesome and the more you know Him, the more you will love Him. And at times the view will take your breath away. So keep looking up, dear friend, from earth to Christ.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
