Hebrews 12:1

Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.
Hebrews 12:1
In the first century, as now, athletic games were extremely popular…The athletes would train all year for these athletic games. Races were run, and only one prize was given. The prize was relatively simple—a wreath made of oak, ivy, myrtle, olive leaves, or flowers. This wreath—called stephanos in Greek—was the victor’s crown…It represented the highest of honors, and the winner of it was revered…God has a stephanos to hand out to you as well….How can you stay in the race and advance toward the prize? Just follow the lead of the One who has run ahead of you, the One who is faithful and true and has overcome every obstacle. He wore a crown of thorns so that one day He can hand you your victory crown. That crown will never fade away. It represents the highest of all rewards: righteousness and eternal life.
