A Living Hope In The Promises

How can you find hope when you need it most?

Oh, that is such a question for the heart and soul – especially in times of difficulty when one is hurting.

There is always hope even in the face of the deepest darkness of life. God has plenty to say in His Word about finding hope when you see no earthly reason to hope. That is the great secret. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3).

You have a living hope that can withstand the storms of life regardless of how devastating the thunder or dark the clouds. Real Christian hope, a blessing of our salvation, is always alive and never dies. Those who know Christ can never say they have lost their hope or that there is no hope. Real hope cannot be lost any more than God can be lost. Hope serves as the anchor for your soul. The writer of Hebrews confirms, “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast” (Hebrews 6:19). Oh, how we need this anchor, especially when faced with the deepest darkness of our lives — what some have called the dark night of the soul.

So how can we experience this hope? By running to the God of all hope, opening the pages of His Word, and discovering the power of His great and wonderful promises. The promises in the Word of God will help you stay your course with your Lord. The canvas must remain on the easel and allow the Master Artist to paint His masterpiece and display it in His gallery for His glory.

Peter encourages us to make every effort to respond to the promises in God’s Word (2 Peter 1:5). The psalmist discovered the power of God’s promises when He said, “Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles” (Psalm 119:50 NLT). Paul wrote that “through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope” (Romans 15:4).

Today, if you are in need of hope, open the pages of God’s Word, find a promise, write it out in your journal, and memorize it. Then, pray through all your needs along with the promise from God’s Word. You will discover a new hope growing within you and an ability to hold on with patient expectation as you watch for the fulfillment of God’s promise in your life.

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).
