*** myPhotoWalk — Photo Artistry ***
It was early morning in Los Angeles. We had a room with a balcony and a view looking out across the greater Los Angeles basin. The city lights flickered in the waning night hours. I sensed it was going to be one of those magical mornings as the sun would rise casting an array of color through the clouds. So I grabbed my camera and went outside on the balcony to see what God might do to paint the sky.
Yes, I could tell it was going to be something special. There was just a slight hint of color. And soon, the show began as God, the Master Artist, began brushing strokes of color all across the sky. The moon seemed to hang above it all, adding an extra beauty to the whole thing. And the lights of the city flickered below. And I captured one image after another.
I couldn’t wait to bring these images into my computer and see if the camera captured any of the beauty. I especially loved this particular photographic view and knew I wanted to show how Jesus is the light of the world. Yes, the city lights were beautiful. But nothing compares with His light.
First I processed the image in Adobe Camera Raw, adding clarity, reducing the highlights, and bringing up the shadows. I added sharpness with Pro Contrast in Nik Color Efex. Then, I added a Van Gogh filter from Topaz Impression at 29% opacity. I masked in the city lights at the bottom of the image because I didn’t want any of the painterly effect on that part of the image. I put a slight vignette on the image using ON1 Software. Finally, I added the text of the verse and the word, “Light,” in Helvetica Neue Ultralight.
I love this reminder that Jesus is the Light of the world. The flickering lights remind me that we are in the world, but He shines brighter. As Corrie ten Boom used to say, “His light is brighter than the deepest darkness.”
May we always follow Him and enjoy walking in His light!
