Life In The Desert Place

Do you feel like you are living life in a desert?

Are you in need of some refreshment and revival?

Dear friend, there is abundant life to be found even in the desert place.

Real life, according to Psalm 119, is found as we are revived by God through His Word and the power of the Holy Spirit.

The psalmist prayed, “My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word!” (Psalm 119:25 ESV). And then, the psalmist declares, “This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life” (Psalm 119:50 ESV). The phrase “give me life” in the English Standard Version is translated “revive” in the New American Standard Bible. When God talks about giving us life, real life, He is talking about the experience of personal, spiritual revival in your life.

There is life indeed in the desert. Think on these words from the Lord for all your desert places —

The afflicted and needy are seeking water, but there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst; I, the LORD, will answer them Myself, as the God of Israel I will not forsake them. I will open rivers on the bare heights and springs in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water and the dry land fountains of water. I will put the cedar in the wilderness, the acacia and the myrtle and the olive tree; I will place the juniper in the desert together with the box tree and the cypress, that they may see and recognize, and consider and gain insight as well, that the hand of the LORD has done this, and the Holy One of Israel has created it.
Isaiah 41:17-20

I love these words so much because in them God promises to refresh and renew us in the desert. Dry lands become watered when we walk with the Lord. He pours this refreshing water into our heart in the desert place.

I often walk with God in the desert, with my Nikon camera in hand, to capture the beauty I find there. I especially love watching the light from the rising sun stream over the desert floor like water, bringing a glow to the foliage, mountains, and sky.

So, dear friend, if you are in the desert place, ask God to revive you, to give you life. Then, get ready for a renewing flow of water from the hand of God through the Holy Spirit. Then you will know in a new way that the Lord is the One who is with you, reviving your heart and giving you life in the desert.

Dear Lord, give me life in the desert today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
