Catching His Light

Have you learned to catch the light of the Lord?

I was walking back to the shuttle at the golf course where I had spent the day as one of the media shooting photography at a professional golf tournament. It was a great opportunity for me to watch professional golfers do their best from inside the ropes. After taking hundreds of images out on the course I couldn’t wait to finally sit down and take a break. But as I was walking to the shuttle that would take me to my car, I saw this beautiful landscape of reeds catching the light of the sun. It took my breath away and stopped me in my tracks.

I immediately set up my Nikon camera with my 80-400mm lens and zoomed in to try and capture what I saw with my eyes. I loved how these beautiful reeds were leaning toward the light and catching every ray. The light was showing off every beautiful detail of color and shape.

And then I thought about how we, like these reeds, need to lean toward the light of the Lord and catch every ray of His light filled with love, compassion, comfort, kindness, joy, peace and more. His light gives us life, real life full of meaning and purpose.

So let me ask you, have you learned to be a lightcatcher, catching God’s light as you walk with Him?

David, the man after God’s own heart, was a lightcatcher. He said, “For You light my lamp; The LORD my God illumines my darkness” (Psalm 18:28).

Isaiah encouraged God’s people when he said, “Come let us walk in the light of the LORD” (Isaiah 2:5).

The psalmist pointed out the way to catch light by opening God’s Word. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).

In Streams in the Desert, Mrs. Charles Cowman shares how being a lightcatcher is a walk of faith where we sail by a heavenly light —

It is faith without sight. When we can see, it is not faith, but reasoning. In crossing the Atlantic we observed this very principle of faith. We saw no path upon the sea, nor sign of the shore. And yet day by day we were marking our path upon the chart as exactly as if there had followed us a great chalk line upon the sea. And when we came within twenty miles of land, we knew where we were as exactly as if we had seen it all three thousand miles ahead. How had we measured and marked our course? Day by day our captain had taken his instruments and, looking up to the sky, had fixed his course by the sun. He was sailing by the heavenly, not the earthly lights. So faith looks up and sails on, by God’s great Sun, not seeing one shore line or earthly lighthouse or path upon the way. Often its steps seem to lead into utter uncertainty, and even darkness and disaster; but He opens the way, and often makes such midnight hours the very gates of day. Let us go forth this day, not knowing, but trusting.

So today, dear friend, choose to be a lightcatcher, walking with the Lord as you open the pages of His Word day by day. You will enjoy the beauty and certainty of the leading of the Lord into the very plans and purposes of God.

God bless you.

Dear Lord, thank You for Your light that shines on every page of Your Word. Help us to be lightcatchers and walk in Your light. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
