One of the great gifts God gives us is contentment. Contentment is elusive. You cannot manufacture it, but you can learn it. Paul said, “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances” (Philippians 4:11 NIV). I would have to say that I am still in the process of learning contentment. My expectations get dashed and then I’m disappointed, left wanting more.

I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
Philippians 4:11 NIV

Paul said that he had learned THE SECRET of being content in any and every situation. What was it? Here it is my friends – “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13). These aren’t just empty words – no, because Jesus gives us everything we need to face whatever we are experiencing at the moment. Nothing is too great for Him. He is the great overcomer and is our hope. But here’s what I’m learning. I need to stay close to Him, listening for His Words in His Word, crying out to Him with every need, and literally resting in His everlasting arms of comfort, mercy, and grace. When I am close to Him I experience such peace – like this beautiful landscape with lovely trees and smooth clear water. My heart is given a rest and I am content. No wonder God says, “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Good words for stormy days. When life is turbulent, we need to get still, know the greatness and glory of God, and experience contentment in the midst of the storm.

Dear friend, in the middle of today, will you take time to be still and know God? Be intimate with Him, draw on His strength, and learn contentment.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
