Are you an observer or a participant in your life with your Lord? Are you sitting on the sidelines, dabbling in many things, or have you set them aside for the one thing in life – knowing, loving, and experiencing God? Do you follow Jesus or forget Him as you live through each day? Jesus says, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). We follow Him “by faith” (2 Corinthians 5:7). And oh what a walk of faith it is! Corrie ten Boom called our life of FAITH, a “Fantastic Adventure In Trusting Him.”

Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Matthew 4:19

I was driving by this small lake near my house and saw a huge bird sitting in the water. “What was that?” I wondered as I pulled into the driveway. Not wanting to miss a photo opportunity, especially of wildlife, I grabbed my camera, telephoto lens, tripod, and quickly drove back for a new adventure. I was not disappointed. Five pelicans are visiting just now and they were flying low on the water, swimming around, and generally having the time of their lives. Between laughing and just enjoying the show, I was trying to capture this moment of grand display of God’s majesty and glory.

And then I noticed something unusual in the background. Numerous birds were lined up on the water’s edge, watching the show. My splashing pelicans were experiencing the water, but the other birds on the bank could only observe from a distance.

I believe there’s a message in this for us. God is inviting us to draw near to Him and He will draw near to us (James 4:8). He says, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). He wants us to enjoy a firsthand experience with Him. Jesus applauded Mary for choosing the best thing – sitting at His feet and listening to His Word – and said it could not be taken from her (Luke 10:38-42).

Oh there is a glorious joy when we draw near to God, open the pages of His Word, and know Him in a firsthand experience. Think about it. Would you like to only watch a travelogue about Hawaii, or would you like to go there yourself, and watch a beautiful sunset, or walk along the beach, feeling the water wash across your feet and enjoying the warm, tropical breeze? Today, may you enjoy the firsthand experience of God Himself.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
