Something Beautiful

Beauty is all around us if we look for it. When we catch the first view of something beautiful, our heart responds with a piece of joy. And if we gaze long enough, our joy is multiplied and spreads through our soul. There’s a promise in God’s Word that so blesses me.

Listen to these words from Ecclesiastes 3:1, 11:

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven…He has made everything beautiful in its time.
Ecclesiastes 3:1,11

Oh I love those words today. They bring hope to me, knowing that even the most difficult days can become beautiful when placed in the hands of the Lord. God can accomplish the impossible. He has ideas that I have not yet imagined, and He can bring light to any darkness. He is God, the Creator of the Universe.

I remember sitting in the restaurant at Klamath Falls, Oregon, preparing for a day of speaking. I was up early and had my camera and tripod ready just in case I saw something beautiful in God’s creation. I don’t like to miss anything. And of course I was not disappointed. I looked out the window and saw this magnificent cloud move across the terrain and light up as the sun rose. I grabbed my camera, set up out on the veranda, and began shooting bracketed exposures to catch all the tones of light. Soon this whole area will be covered with snow. Seasons come and go. The snow melts, the trees become green again. Then, they change colors, and there is a new kind of beauty as the leaves are ready to fall before a new snow comes again.

God makes everything beautiful in its time. These words encourage me to entrust everything in my life to the Lord. He makes every difficult valley beautiful in its time. If you are in a difficult place just now, be still, wait on the Lord, trust in Him with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths (Psalm 37:7, Proverbs 3:5-6). Look for the beauty of the Lord in every corner of your world.

Jeremiah, the prophet, discovered the beauty of the Lord when he was downcast in soul. Here is what he discovered: “Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’ The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him” (Lamentations 3:21-25).

Don’t be afraid of any valleys in your life today, dear friend. God makes all things beautiful in His time. Be still, and know that He is God – you will find His beauty greater than any found on earth (Psalm 46:10).
