Contentment Reflections

Contentment. It’s that experience in life of having enough. And we may experience contentment every day because of our God, who is the God of all grace, who gives us everything we need for every circumstance of life.

I love this promise:

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:8

God’s grace and provision is at the heart of the contentment you experience. But as Paul teaches – contentment is learned – it is a by faith experience (Philippians 4:10-13). Contentment is possible through Christ because we can do everything through Him who gives us strength (Philippians 4:13).

“Godliness with contentment is great gain” according to Paul (1 Timothy 6:6). He continues on to share that our life is truly in the Lord. The things of this world are only temporary, so we can be content with what we have. I believe the path to contentment is shared by Paul in Philippians 4. He encourages us to pray instead of living in anxiety (Philippians 4:6-7). Then he encourages us to think on the right things – truth, righteousness, purity, praiseworthy and excellent things. And finally, look to the Lord to give you strength and the ability to be content in every circumstance (Philippians 4:11-13). All things are possible because of Christ.

I took this photo in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and loved the peace of the reflection. Those still waters are a picture of contentment. There are clouds in the sky and storm is there, but the waters are still, reflecting the trees. And so it is, our hearts find stillness in the Lord, and we reflect Him as we go about our days.

May you experience contentment in the Lord today.
