Revival

Revival. Sometimes when you hear the word revival, you think of an event held in a city, and sponsored by a group hoping to impact large numbers of people for Christ. There have been many large tent revivals over the years and thousands have given their lives to Christ as a result. But the essence of revival is the work of the Lord in a heart. Our hearts need revival. Revival is personal and powerful. The Spirit of God revives our heart and the result is a refreshing of the spirit, a comfort for brokenness, and transformation of life. We need revival because of sin, suffering, and for spiritual growth.

The psalmist said,

My soul cleaves to the dust; Revive me according to Your word … this is my comfort in my affliction, that Your word has revived me.
Psalm 119:25,50

The NIV translation uses the word life instead of revival. Revival is real life. Imagine a lush, green, flourishing place such as the one in the picture above. There is plenty of water to cause abundant, green growth. That’s the kind of growth that occurs in your heart as the Lord revives you through His Spirit. Your heart becomes a well-watered garden (Isaiah 58:11) and from your innermost being flows rivers of living water (John 7:37-39). So today, dear friend, draw near to God, open His Word, pour out your heart to Him, and experience His reviving work in your heart.

Times of refreshing do, indeed, come from the presence of the Lord (Acts 3:19).

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
