Pilgrimage OLS — Week Three #1

Have you experienced a time where you feel alone, forgotten by everyone, including God? David surely experienced those same feelings when he wrote Psalm 13. He began his entire psalm with a heart poured out to God – How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? And of course, he was on the run, chased by the most powerful man in his world, King Saul. And he did feel as though he was in it alone. He found himself in enemy territory and saw no way out.

Always remember when you feel alone, you’re not. And be encouraged that when you feel forgotten by God, you’re not. Feelings are transient and cannot be counted on as a firm foundation for your faith. God’s promises in His Word are that firm foundation and once you have filled the landscape of your spiritual vision with the truth, then you will no longer live in the ocean of your emotion.

God promises He will never forget you. He says,

But Zion said, ‘The LORD has forsaken me, the LORD has forgotten me.’ Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Thought she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.
Isaiah 49:14-16

In our study of Pilgrimage of the Heart this week and next, we are living in Psalm 13, written by David the man after God’s own heart. In the first two days, we are looking at some powerful promises to encourage us when we feel forgotten and alone. Oh my prayer is that you will just live in all these promises, and find hope when you need it most. I love Psalm 13 because I am learning more and more that even the great men and women of God have struggled with feelings of despair, disappointment, and discouragement. The difference is that they don’t stay in the dreadful D’s – no, they immediately recall to mind the promises of God. And we need to do the same.

Your assignment for this coming week is to continue on in Pilgrimage of the Heart Week 3, Days 1-7.

♥ God bless you as you continue this great adventure of knowing Him!

Luke 5:16 NASB — But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.
Amazing! Personal and touching! You will grow through this! Amazing because you will journey into new areas with the Lord that are going to help build your foundation in Him. This book is for anyone that wants to walk closer to God, no matter how close you already are. I would buy this for every woman I know if I could.
