SURPRISE

Have you ever set out on a journey expecting one thing and experiencing quite another? If you are walking with the Lord, then get ready, because He is the God who loves to surprise you. David, the man after God’s own heart, knew this about God. When David talked about praying to God, he said, “Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, for to You I pray. In the morning, O LORD, You will hear my voice; in the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch. I LOVE those words, “eagerly watch.” Why would David eagerly watch? What was he looking for? I believe David knew about God’s surprises and was eager to see what God would do. David knew that God could accomplish things that never even crossed his mind. And we, too, must remember that God has plans that have not even entered our minds.
Yesterday, I got up early and went on a photo shoot to an area where I had seen some geese the day before. I didn’t know how long they would be in the area so I wanted to make sure I got some good photos. I got my camera, telephoto lens, tripod, warm gloves and coat and set out on a photo walk by this small lake to shoot some pictures of geese. Well, the geese weren’t there. Instead, there were about 20 egrets flying back and forth across the water, putting on an amazing show. They were almost dancing on the water, just having the time of their lives. I stood for an hour taking as many photos of the show as I could. For any who have attempted bird photography, you know how difficult it is to catch the flight of a fast-flying bird. I had a whole new lesson in panning, focus, and proper exposure in photography. So now I am on a whole new quest to learn more about photographing birds.
The best part of the morning is that it was such an unexpected surprise. I went out to shoot geese, not dancing egrets! It was an amazing and beautiful adventure. And so it is in your walk with the Lord. You may expect one thing and get quite another as the Lord leads you in life. Open your eyes to the adventure and eagerly watch for God at work throughout the day.
God bless you dear friend as you continue on in this great adventure of knowing Him.
Blessings and Grace to you,

Love the photo, Catherine, as well as the message.
Thanks Lyn – it was an amazing time out there getting photos of those egrets. The Lord surely surprised me that morning!
