Grace When You Need It Most — Hume Lake CA
I had the great privilege to be invited to speak at historic Hume Lake Christian Camps, California, for the Hume Lake Women’s Spring Retreat from March 17-19, 2011 to a packed auditorium of enthusiastic listeners. I love preparing for speaking at an upcoming Women’s Retreat. I’ve spoken at many retreats, but each one is unique, special, and an important life-changing experience with the Lord. The theme was Come Away My Beloved, sharing the grace of God, and I’ve added a little phrase to highlight all my messages — and walk in the garden of God’s extravagant grace. Once the messages are written, the handouts and quiet times designed, and the PowerPoint slides prepared, then it’s time for passionate prayer for a powerful move of God in all of our lives. I especially put together four messages bringing out the heart of my A Devotional Journey, A Woman’s Walk In Grace:
- Grace When You Need It Most
- Grace When You Need A New Day
- Grace When You Need Jesus
- Grace When You Need To Dream Big
I’ve discovered that grace is like chocolate – we need it every day! So I couldn’t wait to share all about the amazing, extravagant, immeasurable, grace of God. I began praying that we all —
The weekend included snow, and grace-filled, God-inspired moments of beauty and blessing. I woke up for the first full day of speaking to three feet of snow! Growing up in the Arizona desert, I’m not used to snow. I soon discovered that my shoes were not waterproof. The only way for me to make it across that snow was to step into the footprints of someone who went before me. I had to follow closely because the footprints quickly disappeared almost immediately with time and snowfall. I’ve posted a few shots in the gallery to give you a flavor of the delightful winter atmosphere.
Editor’s Note — Hume Lake
The lures of money, adventure, and challenge have always been strong driving forces. From the earliest days of recorded history, men and women have pursued wealth and a better way of life. So it was in the 1800’s. California had received its statehood and the Civil War was over. Due to the Gold Rush of 1849 and the Homestead Law of 1850, which made it possible to purchase federal government land, settlers poured into California by the thousands in search of a new way of life. A land rush soon followed. In 1888, two businessmen purchased thousands of acres of timberland in Tulare County, CA for the purpose of logging the giant redwood groves. The lumber business changed hands over the years. An in 1905, Ira Bennett and wealthy financier, Thomas Hume, formed the Hume-Bennett Lumber Company on the site. But it was not until 1945, that several hard-working, Christian men came together in the valley town of Dinuba to discuss plans for a Christian Bible camp. They began regular prayer meetings to seek God’s will and plan. On January 9, 1946, these men purchased 320 acres of lakeshore property, including the Hume Lake Hotel, store, service station, post office, 22 cottages, and 22 boats. In the summer of 1946, 670 campers attended Hume Lake Conferences and were attended by 15 volunteer staff. The vision, patience, and labor of these men, in response to the Holy Spirit, birthed Hume Lake Christian Camps. Hume Lake Christian Camps is a year-round youth camp and adult retreat center providing epic, high-energy, life-changing programs for churches, schools, teams and groups. Hume Lake exists to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Hume’s very mission statement expresses our desire that each person coming into contact with this ministry will learn of the love and power of a life lived in Christ. Nestled in the Sequoia National Forest, 365 acres of God’s creation provides the perfect backdrop for a life changing experience.
♥ God bless you in the great adventure of knowing Him!
