Forever OLS — Week Two #1

One of the most important questions Jesus ever asked His disciples was, “But who do you say that I am?” (Mark 8:29).

Jesus was pointed and direct as He spoke with those who were closest to Him. And friends, that really is the question that comes to us now as we step into the landscape of the book of Revelation. The beloved John, exiled to Patmos, heard a loud voice behind him, like the sound of a trumpet. He turned to see the voice and what he saw caused him to fall on his face. His first view of Jesus is only the beginning of one revelation after another of the One who is seen as the Lamb of God, the Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, the Shepherd, the One who is Faithful and True, Kings of Kings, Lord of Lords, and the bright morning star.

Who do you say that Jesus is?

Imagine standing with John, turning to hear the voice who commanded him to write in a book everything he saw, and send it to the seven churches of western Asia Minor. Get ready — here is your first view of Jesus in Revelation 1:12-16. As you turn with John to see the One who is speaking, you see:

Standing in the middle of the lampstands was the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across His chest. His head and His hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And His eyes were bright like flames of fire. His feet were as bright as bronze refined in a furnace, and His voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. He held seven stars in His right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from His mouth. And His face was as bright as the sun in all its brilliance.
Revelation 1:12-16

When John saw Him, he fell at His feet as dead. Jesus put His right hand on John and said, “Don’t be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the living one who died. Look, I am alive forever and ever! and I hold the keys of death and the grave” (Revelation 1:17-18).

Can you imagine being exiled on an island because of your faith in Christ, and then, experiencing the surprise of Christ Himself, in His magnificent glory, appearing before your very eyes and talking to you? And that was only the beginning. In your journey in Part 1 of The Person of Eternity in A Heart To See Forever, you experience the Revelation given to John and ultimately to us with visions of Jesus, the throne room of God, and the new heaven and the new earth.

Who do you say Jesus is? Do you know Him as your living Lord, the One who is the way, the truth, and the life? Will you ask Him now to give you eyes to see Him clearly in Revelation and a heart to love, honor, believe, and surrender to Him?

♥ God bless you as you continue this great adventure of knowing Him!

Sola Scriptura

When you finish Week 2, Days 1-3, share the most important truth you learned about Jesus? Has He brought you to a deeper commitment or surrender to Him? In Day 2 you had the opportunity to write out your surrender in the form of a contract with the Lord. How did God use those commitments to work in your life?

Luke 5:16 NASB — But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.
A Heart To See Forever has been an incredible study. … God has given me so much to ponder and the time to meander through His Word. … I find that Catherine’s studies are so thought-provoking and give me the opportunity to spend time with the Lord in ways that I have never done before. There are so many places within each day’s session where I can stop, ponder, pray, journal and return to or go on ahead. For the first time, I actually want to do a study over again.

A Heart to See Forever was my first real Bible study. Studying the revelation of the glorious new heaven and new earth motivated me to turn back to Genesis and begin an in depth study from there. With this perspective, I can see every book [of the Bible] through the lens of eternity.
