A Heart On Fire OLS — Week Three #3
As you go about your days, what occupies your mind the most?
Your difficulties, hopes, needs? People, possessions, power?
These are the things that many people think about all the time in the world. I believe we think about what’s most important to us. Our thoughts and actions reveal our heart and ultimately determine the course of our life. I invite you to turn your heart and mind to embrace your romance with the Lord. Fill your thoughts with Him. Walk and talk with Him, moment by moment. Enjoy His presence throughout the day. The Bible encourages you in understanding that what you think about and what fills your heart and life will ultimately make or break you and determine the direction of your life.
In Week 3, Days 4-7 of A Heart On Fire, we had the opportunity to focus on the depth of God’s amazing love for us. We saw that His love is so high and deep and wide that it takes us all the way to eternity. Once we have entered into a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, we have the firm promise and hope that we will be together forever with Him. Oh what a hope that is for us especially when we face devastating circumstances and painful losses. We have a rich gain when we step into heaven – together forever.
Will you embrace your romance with your Lord? One of my favorite views of the desert is Mount San Jacinto rising above the desert floor in the Coachella Valley where I live. I love all it’s crevices and how the light casts different shadows that are so interesting. I can never resist shooting this scene again and again, though I have taken photos of this particular mountain many times. Every day is different. I love the adventure of photography because no scene is ever the same.
And with the Lord, no moment is the same. Every day is brand new. There is always something new to know about our Lord. He takes us on an adventure where He opens our eyes to new vistas in the landscape of life. Some of the landscape is difficult and treacherous. In fact, it’s downright painful at times. But if we lean in to His arms, embrace the romance, we discover it is very much a dance. I call it a dance of the heart and we need to have hearts that will dance with Him. If we are close to Him and follow His lead, no matter how dangerous and painful the landscape, He will take us safely through. And we will experience Him – His love, peace, joy, comfort, power, and strength. He will give us everything we need for the journey.
I loved the Charles Haddon Spurgeon quotes this week. Here are some of my favorites:
Rejoice, then, beloved, for if your portion on earth be slender, if your condition here be sorrowful, if your trials multiply, if your strength declines, yet it is but a little while and he that will come shall come, and shall not tarry. Well doth our hymn tell us that an hour with our Lord will make up for it all. We shall forget the pains of a long life in one half-hour of the vision of the Well-beloved … The true Christian life, when we live near to God, is the rough draft of the life of full communion above … Brethren, be diligent in the school of the cross; therein is enduring wisdom. Study your Saviour much. The science of Christ crucified is the most excellent sciences; and to know him and the power of his resurrection, is to know that which is best worth knowing…The most of you are too busy, you have too much to do in the world, but what is it all about? Scraping together dust, loading yourselves with thick clay. Oh, that you were busy after the true riches, and could step aside awhile to enrich yourselves in solitude, and make your hearts vigorous by feeding upon the person and work of your ever-blessed Lord! You miss a heaven below by a too eager pursuit of earth. You cannot know these joyful raptures if meditation be pushed into a corner … I believe those are the happiest saints who are most overwhelmed with a sense of the greatness, goodness, and preciousness of Christ.
Your assignment this week is the Week 4, Days 1-7 in A Heart On Fire.
♥ God bless you as you continue this great adventure of knowing Him!
In our discussion this week, I would love for all of us to share the answers to these questions: What truth from your study this week encouraged and grew the love in your heart for your Lord the most? What was your favorite part of your study this week?
