A Heart On Fire OLS — Week Eight

Oh yes, there is more to life than all you had imagined.

Eternal life in a yet unseen land awaits all who know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. This life is not all there is, nor is it the best there is. Paul encourages all who walk with Jesus to “set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on the earth” (Colossians 3:2). Earthly things bombard our mind and heart at times and threaten to pull us down into such despair and discouragement that we may think we cannot go on. That is the time to lift our sights, with care and intention and purpose, to “the things above.”

And what exactly are those things?

  • The great and magnificent promises of God found in the Bible.
  • The Lord Jesus who will never leave us or forsake us. He ever lives to make intercession for us.
  • Our future in heaven where Jesus is preparing a place for us even now.
  • God’s plan and purpose that includes us according to Ephesians 2:10.
  • The comfort, love, strength, and compassion that are ours in Christ Jesus.
  • And so much more according to what God tells us in His Word.

In Week 8, Days 1-7, of A Heart On Fire, the final week of our Annual Seasonal Online Study for 2012-2013, we looked at a final portrait of Jesus found in the book of Revelation. Here we see Jesus in all His glory beginning in Revelation 1 and continuing through to Revelation 22. We see that He is the Person of Eternity and we will be with Him forever. We have the hope and joy of knowing that we will see Him face to face very soon.

Anne Cousin calls our future glory with Jesus, “Immanuel’s Land.”

The sands of time are sinking,
The dawn of Heaven breaks,
The summer morn I’ve sighed for,
The fair sweet morn awakes:
Dark, dark hath been the midnight,
But dayspring is at hand,
And glory—glory dwelleth
In Immanuel’s land.

There the Red Rose of Sharon
Unfolds its heartsome bloom,
And fills the air of Heaven
With ravishing perfume:—
Oh! to behold it blossom,
While by its fragrance fann’d
Where glory—glory dwelleth
In Immanuel’s land.

The King there in His beauty,
Without a veil, is seen:
It were a well-spent journey,
Though seven deaths lay between.
The Lamb, with His fair army,
Doth on Mount Zion stand,
And glory—glory dwelleth
In Immanuel’s land.

Oh! Christ He is the Fountain,
The deep sweet well of love!
The streams on earth I’ve tasted,
More deep I’ll drink above:
There, to an ocean fullness,
His mercy doth expand,
And glory—glory dwelleth
In Immanuel’s land.

The Bride eyes not her garment,
But her dear Bridegroom’s face;
I will not gaze at glory,
But on my King of Grace—
Not at the crown He giveth,
But on His pierced hand:
The Lamb is all the glory
Of Immanuel’s land.

Today, as you think about all you learned about Jesus, and you look forward to seeing your Lord’s face when you step from earth to heaven, may your heart burn with a love and passion for Him.

I can hardly believe we are at the end of A Heart On Fire quiet time study. I just want you to know what a joy it was to study God’s Word with you. I look forward to studying with you again.

♥ God bless you as you continue this great adventure of knowing Him!
