Streets Of Gold

I’ve been thinking a lot about heaven these days.

Heaven is my home. And I’m on my way there.

Here on earth I’m just a pilgrim. Yes, I’m just passing through. Heaven is the real deal – eternal – a place that lasts forever, never fades, and our bright shining hope. I carry the flag of my heavenly homeland daily as I walk moment-by-moment by faith with my constant, loving, faithful Lord and Savior Jesus, who is the King of my heavenly home. Jesus has assured me that the very moment I’m absent from my body, I’m instantly at home with Him (2 Corinthians 5:8). The apostle Paul knew and loved King Jesus, and walked very closely with Him. Paul was very clear to say that to die is gain and to be with Christ is “better by far” – those are his words (Philippians 1:21-23). He went on to call himself a citizen of heaven. I love that – my citizenship is there too.

Oh how beautiful is my homeland of heaven! The walls of the city of heaven are made of jasper and city is made of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundations of the walls are decorated with every kind of precious stone – jasper, sapphire, chalcedony, emerald, sardonyx, carnelian, chrysolite, beryl, topaz, amethyst, and more. The gates are actual pearls so large that the entire gate is one pearl. And oh the streets – they are pure gold, like transparent glass. And in heaven there is no need for the sun or the moon, because the glory of God is the light of heaven.

Jesus assures me that there is a place for me there that He has prepared especially for me. He says,

Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for You, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
John 14:1-3

I can’t wait to see what the Lord Jesus has prepared just for me!!

I can’t wait for heaven because there will be no more death, mourning, pain, or crying. My Lord has promised to wipe every tear from my eyes Himself. And that brings me to this. The greatest experience of heaven will be to see the face of Jesus. He is with me now and promises He will never leave me – not ever! That means He is with me every moment, walks through the valley of the shadow of death with me, and then opens my eyes to see Him face to face in heaven. I believe just seeing His face, looking into His eyes, will be an experience of love completely unknown here on earth. We are assured that “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). Paul said that now we see through a glass dimly, but then face to face; now we know in part, but we will know fully just as we have been fully known (1 Corinthians 13:12).

As I sat with the Lord early in the morning just 2 days ago watching the sunrise, capturing this image, all of a sudden, just for about one minute, the sky and the water took on this golden appearance. I cannot help but look at this and think of my home in heaven and the streets of gold. My dear friend Shirley Peters, long time prayer warrior for Quiet Time Ministries, is there now, and friends and family I love are there also. And others, including me, will follow shortly. And in a hundred years, all of us who know the Lord will be there. Oh I can’t wait for that day when we are all together forever.

Until that time, I will continue to fly the flag faithfully that reflects my citizenship of heaven paying homage and honoring and glorifying my King – the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

So, dear friend, may you be filled with hope today as you think about the joy and hope of heaven and those amazing, incredible streets of gold and seeing the Lord, face to face.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
