Continuing On In Quiet Time

Ever feel a bit stuck because you can’t move on from a beautiful place? You just can’t seem to let go of the wonder of the present moment, the cherished possession, or the treasured fellowship. And so you seem to stay in one place for awhile, wondering about your own path in life. What will help you let go, take the bend in the road, and move on in your journey with the Lord?

I experience the difficulty of continuing on every time I come to the end of a quiet time study in God’s Word. We at Quiet Time Ministries have just completed our Annual Seasonal Fall-Winter Online Bible Study in the book of Revelation through my quiet time study in A Heart To See Forever. More than two hundred of us at our church lived in these magnificent promises of eternity for about four months. And when the study ended, I felt a bit up in the air, as though I was missing something. At first, even my quiet times felt different without the study in A Heart To See Forever as part of my morning time with God.

I’ve walked this journey many times before. And the Lord has helped me learn some secrets to continuing on with Him.

Here is what I’ve learned about continuing on in quiet time —

  • Endings are simply beginnings. Remember God’s promise of the new day. “Behold, I will do something new, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert” Isaiah 43:19. I love this promise. I always think of these words at the end of a study. So get excited about the “something new” that God has for you.
  • Nothing beats planning ahead. Plan ahead for your future quiet times while you are still finishing the current Bible study. God says, “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Quiet time is not an option, it’s an imperative. When I am in between Bible studies, I sit down and think through The PRAYER Quiet Time Plan — Prepare Your Heart, Read and Study God’s Word, Adore God in Prayer, Yield Yourself To God, Enjoy His Presence, and Rest in His Love. I reorganize my quiet time materials, open my current version of The Quiet Time Notebook, and decide on a new Bible reading plan. These times have been so precious and life-changing for me as I draw near to God in quiet time.My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers
  • The Lord’s guidance is golden. How do you decide on the next Bible study? What will you study and where will you meet? And whose study will you join or lead? Before I completed A Heart To See Forever, I prayed and asked the Lord for guidance on what was next. The Spirit of God is faithful to lead us into the will of God (Romans 8:14). The Lord’s answer. My next study will be my Run Before The Wind — Truths from Acts to Enjoy Life in the Spirit. I can’t wait to dig in to the book of Acts. Spend eight weeks in the book Acts and your life will never be the same!

Maybe you need encouragement to continue on because of other changes in your life or bends in the road. These three secrets will help you move on to the new day God has for you. Remember endings are also beginnings of something new. Draw near to God in quiet time and open the pages of His Word. And join a Bible study to grow deeper in your relationship with God and others.

When you continue on, you will discover great joy in the new thing that the Lord has for you. He has it waiting, just around the corner

♥ God bless you in the great adventure of knowing Him!

Journaling pours out your soul to the Lord. When you journal, you become receptive to the voice of God. … Pouring out your soul to the Lord means to lift up every desire, need, joy, sorrow, and thought that is on your heart and in your mind to your Father who loves you more than you can imagine. It is done in the presence of God, directed to God, and intended for the glory of God.
