A Tree In The Desert

There it sits.

Exposed to the elements, yet still reaching to the sky, responding to the light, and continuing to grow.

Elegant and beautiful, but also rugged and tough, planted firmly in the ground.

A tree planted in the desert.

That’s what God does. He plants trees in the desert and then makes the water flow in barren places. He can turn the desert into pools of water, according to Isaiah 41:18. Trees can grow and flourish even in the desert where God has planted them.

God says that He plants certain trees in the desert so …

… That they may see and recognize, And consider and gain insight as well, That the hand of the Lord has done this, And the Holy One of Israel has created it.
Isaiah 41:20

I was walking in the desert with the Lord, talking with Him, stopping at times to focus in with my camera and shoot something interesting along the way.

Then, I sat on a rock with my Bible and lingered in Isaiah 41-44, reflecting on the deserts of life.

I continued walking and then I saw it. This tree in the desert. The way the branches twisted and turned, reaching upward, struck a chord in my heart.

I focused in with my camera to capture what was touching me in such a powerful way. In the Bible, we are often likened to a tree, even a tree in the desert. I’ve noticed that whenever such a tree is described, it’s always a tree not lots of trees. Our journey with the Lord is our journey. No one else can live it. And our experiences, whether they are losses, or difficult climbs, or lonely valleys, are walked very often alone with the Lord. And so, there we are, in the desert place. Always remember, God’s glory can shine with brightness and beauty, even in the desert.

Maybe you are that one who is feeling alone in a desert place. God is making you and molding you into His masterpiece for His glory. As you see Him at work in you, day by day, you will know Him more intimately, and grow tall — tall enough to see forever. Perhaps God has planted you there in the desert place like He did Abraham, so you can become His friend, sharing His treasures saved for those who will venture near to Him.

Whatever your journey may be at the moment, learn the lesson from the tree, and reach up to Him, bask in His light, and rest in His love.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
