Stopping In The Quiet

Sometimes you just need to stop. Relax. Step away. And sit down.

You need time to think. To ponder things. To see beauty and art out in God’s creation.

I love to find that beautiful place out in nature to sit and look at God’s handiwork. These times soothe my weary soul. That’s one of the things I love about photography. When I am carrying my camera as I walk someplace beautiful, I instantly slow down. I don’t want to miss anything. Photography helps me stop to see God’s majesty and glimpse His glory here on earth.

I was out hiking along Avalanche Trail in Glacier National Park with a group of photographers as part of Bill Fortney’s His Light Workshop. It was pouring rain but we were protected in the rainforest by the tree branches. I stepped away from the group and found this place by the water with huge rocks where I could sit and rest awhile. I watched the water as it moved past the trees and then on past me. The trees were vibrant and green. The water cool and refreshing.

Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10

God speaks in His Word. If we will slow down we can hear Him.

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
Hebrews 11:6

Lord, as I reflect on the power of the rushing waters and the beauty and stillness of this moment, I realize how much I need to drink in the life-giving strength of Your Spirit today. You are everything I need for this day. Keep me close to You wherever I go and whatever I do.

I think about the promises God gives for those who trust in Him.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD and whose trust is the LORD. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit.
Jeremiah 17:7-8

Remember this place by the water and trust in the Lord today. Trust = total reliance under stress and trial. When you need to trust, take time to stop in the quiet so you can see the Lord in the midst of your trial. When you are still and know that He is God, you will find your ability to rely on Him grow exponentially in your time with Him. Your faith will deepen and you will understand anew that He is and is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

So today, dear friend, find your quiet place and stop everything to drink in the Lord’s life-giving water.

♥ Blessings and Grace to You!
