Divine appointments are those times when God arranges a meeting that wasn’t on your schedule. Ever had that happen to you? When we experience a divine appointment, we touch a bit of heaven and catch a glimpse of the majesty of God. I love divine appointments. As a matter of fact, almost every divine appointment I’ve ever experienced has taken me in an unexpected, new direction in my life. I think of the divine appointment of meeting Bob Hawkins, Sr. of Harvest House Publishers. Soon after, I was writing more books than I could have ever imagined. And then, I remember the day when the pastors from South Korea visited our Quiet Time Ministries offices. And the next few years brought new translations of my books, Six Secrets To A Powerful Quiet Time and Knowing and Loving The Bible.

This last weekend I spoke at our Southwest Community Church (my local church where I am Director of Women’s Ministries) Women’s Retreat at Calvary Chapel Conference Center in Murrieta (Hot Springs), California. There were a number of other churches also using the Calvary Chapel Conference Center for their Women’s Retreats on this particular weekend. Well just before I left for the weekend, I received an email from someone asking if some of their women could meet with me while I was there. She explained that they were using my book, A Heart That Dances, in their Bible study and watching the DVD messages each week. She said there would probably be 4 or 5 of them who would attend. Of course, I said yes! We decided to meet in the coffee shop on the conference grounds on Saturday afternoon.

So I arrived at the coffee shop, grabbed some coffee, and chose a table where I thought 4 or 5 of us could sit. I had no real plan, and was excited to meet some women who were using one of my studies. I love the promise in Proverbs 16:9 — “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” One woman after another began arriving. Before I knew it, there were more than 15 women — amazing, incredible, beautiful, Spirit-filled women — sitting around the table. And though I had no message notes in front of me, I felt as though the Lord was writing a message in my heart. I began sharing, first about how God gave me the idea for Quiet Time Ministries. I talked about how we need to be responsible for the depth of our ministry, and let God be responsible for the breadth of our ministry. And then, I just shared stories of all that God has done over the years. How He’s opened doors I could have never opened. How He’s given strength for incredible opportunities. We had a glorious time where the Lord Jesus just poured out His blessings on all of us. We clearly knew that this precious time was etched in history as a gift from the Lord to all of us. Oh what grace was ours that afternoon!

I will never be the same because of this one divine appointment. Just think — I thought the weekend would be a time where I was speaking to women from my local church. I had no idea that the Lord was also going to bless me with these amazing women who are studying one of my books. I learned that there are 30 women in their study of A Heart That Dances. It’s not often that I have the opportunity to meet those who are using my studies in their groups. Oh what a blessing from the Lord! The Lord gave me a glimpse of what He is doing and encouraged me to keep being faithful in all He has called me to in life. I needed that encouragement even more than I realized. Sometimes we just need the urging on of the Lord to keep going. Keep running. Finish your race.

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me — the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace (Acts 20:24).

Divine appointments — they are magnificently beautiful when they happen. Unplanned, yet clearly planned by God. Look at these beautiful women. They clearly have hearts that dance with the Lord. Oh, they are dancing.

Today, get ready. There just may be a divine appointment waiting for you.

God bless you as you continue on in the great adventure of knowing Him!

The Lord has something He wants us to remember. Every day we must keep it in mind. And it’s one thing we go back to time and time again. Always the Word of God. When you are downhearted, turn to the Word. When you don’t know how to respond, open the Bible. When you sense a need to go deeper with God and grow in your faith, live in the Word. Carry the Bible with you wherever you go. Keep a Bible in your car. If you have time, open it and drink in God’s Word.

Paul encouraged his disciple, Timothy, with these words:

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage — with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. — 2 Timothy 4:1-5

I love those words for all of us today. How can we keep our head, endure hardship, and do everything God has called us to during our brief stay on earth? We’ve got to stay close to God and His Word. Always the Word. Not myths. Not feelings and sight, but faith in God’s Word.

So today, whatever you are experiencing, turn to God in His Word. You will meet Him there and He will speak to you, accomplishing His plan and purpose in your life.

God bless you as you continue on in the great adventure of knowing Him!

Are you fighting a huge case of anxiety today? Are you wrestling with something that has caused your heart to drop to your feet and you are in a constant state of panic? Friend, you need the peace of God that surpasses all comprehension. I know you’re probably thinking, “That’s obvious. It’s exactly what I need.” Well, I share this because when you are in the midst of fret and worry, you can’t always see beyond it to get a grip. God has an immediate prescription for whatever you are facing today. It’s found in Philippians 4:6-7.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. — Philippians 4:6-7

So what’s the answer when you’re in a state of panic, and you need peace?

Prayer.

But it’s not just any prayer. Here God is specific about the kind of prayer necessary when you are anxious. You need to pour out your heart to Him, ask Him for what you need, and thank Him for every single thing you can think of. You’re laying out your requests to Him. But it’s not in the form of a list. It’s in the context of your relationship with Him. Pour out your heart. Tell Him what you need and want. Then, thank Him for who He is, what He does, and all He says in His Word.

How will God respond? He will answer you. But God’s first response is almost immediate. He will flood your heart with a peace that surpasses all comprehension through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Greek word for peace is “eirene” and is much different than the kind of peace the world knows. God’s peace is possible even in adverse circumstances. His peace brings tranquility to your soul, and replaces fear with contentment in the midst of even turbulent difficulties. How is this possible? Because the soul is rested and assured of the God of the impossible, the God who can do anything, the God who is sovereign and perfectly in control.

So my friend, let me encourage you to step away from the busyness of life, get alone with God, and pray, laying out your heart and your needs before Him. Grab your Bible and fill your heart with God’s promises. If you are unsure where to turn in the Word, open to Psalm 25-42, and read and pray promise after promise.

You will be amazed how prayer turns your panic into peace. So pray, dear friend, pray.

God bless you as you continue on in the great adventure of knowing Him!

Imagine the day the women came to the tomb bringing spices which they had prepared. With hearts broken and heavy with the loss of Jesus, they approached the place where He was laid. What they found was not what they had expected. And isn’t that how it always is with Jesus? When the power of God is at work, we experience more than we can ask or imagine. However, this unexpected moment for these women was much more. We read that “they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.” Imagine entering the dark place of the tomb. When they entered, they found the tomb empty. Jesus was gone! Again, the Bible shares the moment with us. They were “perplexed,” it says. Then, God decided to clarify the unexplainable. Two angels appeared, suddenly standing near them in dazzling clothing. Now, the women were terrified and fell to the ground. While they were bowing their faces in sheer awe and fear, they heard the words that would live forever in their hearts and minds.

“Why do you seek the living One among the dead? He is not here, but He has risen” (Luke 24:5-6). The angels reminded the women of Jesus’ promise to rise again on the third day. Then the women remembered. His Word fulfilled before their eyes, the promise exploded with full force upon them. HE IS RISEN INDEED! They reported what they had witnessed firsthand to the disciples. Again, the Bible takes us into the moment. And we learn, “But these words appeared to them as nonsense, and they would not believe them.”

Do you believe? As you hold God’s Word in your hands, have you opened the pages, filled your mind and heart with God’s promises, and allowed them to explode with full force upon you? The promise of the resurrection of Christ changes everything for you. Because He is risen, you can be saved. You can have the hope of eternal life, where you will live forever in a heavenly home with Jesus. This present temporal life in the world is not all there is, nor is it the best there is. It’s only the cover page of a story that goes on and on and on.

Peter took the words of the women seriously, got up and ran to the tomb. He was rewarded for his faith. The tomb was indeed empty, and he marveled. When you take God at His Word, and walk by faith, you too will marvel.

Jesus appeared to more than 500 following His resurrection. He walked alongside two men on the road back to their home in Emmaus. While He broke bread with them, He opened their eyes and they recognized Him. Their hearts were set on fire with love and commitment to Him forever (Luke 24:32). Perhaps Mary Magdalene was one of the most heartbroken of all, having witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus. She stood weeping outside the empty tomb. She leaned in and looked again, hardly believing that Jesus was not there. This time, she was rewarded for her seeking heart. The Lord says “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). Looking in, she saw two angels who spoke with her, asking why she was weeping. Of course, they knew something she did not yet know. And then, Mary sensed the presence of someone else, standing behind her at the entrance of the tomb. She turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but did not yet know it was Him. Jesus said, “Mary!” And then she knew. “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).

Jesus is risen indeed! Do you believe? Will you answer the cry of your soul and seek Him with all your heart? He is calling out your name even now. Draw near. Enter into the embrace of Jesus. And you will dance with Him forever, as He leads you in life.

God bless you this Easter as you continue on in the great adventure of knowing Him!

This week was filled with some special moments. It’s not every day that a person has the opportunity to share encouraging words with professional athletes who love the Lord. I received a call from Cris Stevens, the Director of the LPGA Christian Fellowship asking if I would speak to their group while they were in the Coachella Valley for the Kraft Nabisco Championship golf tournament at Mission Hills Country Club. Of course, I said yes! I prayed about my message and thought about how this was one of the Major tournaments on the LPGA Tour. And when any of us is in a Major, either in golf or in life, we need a great trust. So my message was, “When You Need A Great Trust, You Need To Know A Great God.”

As soon as I arrived, I met with Cris Stevens, a wonderful friend who is such a blessing both to me and to those spectacular women athletes on the LPGA Tour. She travels from tournament to tournament throughout the world, and holds a weekly meeting on Tuesday nights encouraging the pro women golfers in their relationship with the Lord. Attending the Fellowship this week were LPGA players, caddies, family members and friends. What a joy to be able to share from Psalm 9:10, “Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.” I talked about David and how his trust in God enabled him to fight a giant. We all face giants in life. But God is greater than any giant and will give us the strength, courage, and wisdom to face any obstacle that comes our way. I shared how to spend time with God every day increases our trust in God. Knowing God is what life is all about. We had a powerful time together talking about the greatness and glory of God. I prayed for them and talked with many of the players and caddies after the meeting.

Then, on Thursday, the first day of the tournament, my new study of Run Before The Wind — A Quiet Time Experience made its debut at Southwest Community Church with more than 150 women attending. And surprise! Surprise! Who do you think arrived as our surprise guest! None other than Cris Stevens of the LPGA Christian Fellowship. I introduced her to an adoring group of women — many avid golfers — and told the story of our terrific LPGA Christian Fellowship meeting on Tuesday night. Well, they clapped and cheered, excited to hear how God is working on the LPGA Tour. I spoke on the power of the Holy Spirit and how God works to spread the good news in and through us. He is surely doing that through Cris Stevens and those who know Christ on the LPGA Tour.

You know, dear friends, I surely do love that picture of me with Cris Stevens. Just seeing her face reminds me of how the Lord is spreading His love in and through us to others throughout the world. We will never really know all the lives the Lord touches in and through us as we faithfully walk with Him from day to day. What a privilege to have spent this week with Cris and those LPGA players. I pray that the Lord will continue to pour out His blessings and grace on them.

God bless you this week as you continue on in the great adventure of knowing Him!

I have so many memories from our road trip last weekend to Sandy Cove Conference Center in North East, Maryland. I can’t even begin to find the words to describe this beautiful place on the Chesapeake Bay. The weather was absolutely perfect. I have to laugh because everyone said I brought the weather with me from California. We could have had snow but instead the sun was shining and we were able to sit outside and draw near to the Lord.

I’ll never forget driving from Baltimore and taking the country road that led through the small town of North East and finally to the entrance to Sandy Cove Conference Center.

Even the signs at Sandy Cove encourage you in your relationship with the Lord. The other side of the entrance sign reminds you that “Jesus Never Fails.” I love those words.

The tree-lined road beckoned all to quietly lay burdens at the feet of Jesus and come away for a quiet time alone with Him.

Settling into the room, I gazed through the window and drank in the views of the mist settling over the Chesapeake Bay.

Chairs were everywhere along the water and invited one to grab a Bible and sit alone with the Lord to converse with Him, praise Him for His handiwork, and be still and know that He is God.

It’s been said that music is the foretaste of eternal life. These amazing women led us into the presence of God with powerful worship. Some of my best memories are drawing near through some of my very favorite songs. What a perfect preparation for the messages I was privileged to share from God’s Word.

I love the memories of all the women gathering together in small groups to share about their dance with the Lord. They talked about those things that help us set aside a time, a place, and a plan for quiet time. And they prayed to grow more intimate in their relationship with the Lord.

My fondest memories are the new friends I have. This is Teri Van Schoick, the Director of Women’s Ministries. She is a gifted speaker and teacher of God’s Word. She also told some of the most hilarious stories I’ve ever heard.

Dinah and Sylvia helped me at the Quiet Time Ministries book table. Dinah is incredibly gifted at organization and was the official bookstore manager at our retreat. I loved serving with these two wonderful women of God.

How beautiful this place is! I’ll never forget Sandy Cove Conference Center.

After all the teaching in God’s Word, the sharing together in fellowship, and the amazing times of worship, we danced with the Lord. As I packed my bags, got into the car, and drove back down the road to Baltimore for the plane ride home, I was filled with joy at how the Lord met us and worked among us.

Thank You Lord, for my dear friends at Central! May You continue to draw us near to You and may we all grow in our dance with You.

God bless you, dear friend, as you continue on in the great adventure of knowing Him!

On Thursday, I will board an American Airlines jet at Palm Springs International Airport, and fly all the way across the country for a wonderful ministry opportunity to a group of women from Central — A Christ Centered Church, Ewing, New Jersey. This trip will actually take me to North East, Maryland, where I will speak at the Sandy Cove Christian Conference Center right on the northern tip of the spectacular Chesapeake Bay. The reason I know the Chesapeake Bay is “spectacular” is that my husband is from Maryland, and forever sings the praises of Chesapeake Bay Crab. And I agree!

What Goes Into A Speaking Trip?

When I go on a speaking trip, I plan and prepare for months in advance. The whole process gets my adrenaline going for the Lord. This planning includes —

writing the messages tailored specifically to the topic and the audience

preparing a devotional quiet time for all the women to enjoy on their retreat

designing all the powerpoint slides for the presentations

praying together with all the retreat/conference organizers

And the weekend before I leave I always pack, and then review all my messages asking the Lord to lead me as I teach from His Word.

At the upcoming retreat next weekend I will be speaking on our intimate relationship with the Lord entitled “Shall We Dance?” My messages will focus on four amazing women in the Bible who danced with the Lord: the woman at the well, Mary and Martha, Anna, and Mary Magdalene. Oh,and I am so excited to share these messages from the Bible! I pray that everyone who hears them will be challenged to lean in to the embrace of Jesus and dance.

Sandy Cove Ministries is a year round Christian conference center in North East Maryland offering church retreats, summer youth and family camps, women’s events, men’s weekends, couples getaways, mother-daughter and father-son experiences as well as pastors, seniors and singles conferences. Candy Davison is the Women’s Ministries Director for Sandy Cove Ministries. “If you’ve never been to a Sandy Cove Women’s Weekend, then you don’t know what you’re missing! These events are without question among the highest caliber Christian women’s gatherings in the Mid-Atlantic! Music, ministry, teaching, relaxing, talking, and laughing – these are a few of the reasons you should come! … In case you’ve lost your way, wandered off the path briefly, or just need a rest, the “compass” will always point to Jesus Christ. He’s here, by the way!”

I love the opportunities to speak and teach others from God’s Word. I view all of ministry as a stewardship entrusted by the Lord. When we minister with the gifts given by the Lord, we must do it with professionalism, purpose, prayer, and passion. And so, as you think of me this coming week, please pray that the Lord moves among us in a powerful way.

God bless you, dear friend, as you continue on in the great adventure of knowing Him!

Have you ever had a day so traumatic you just could not make it on your own? Those are the days when you need to issue a prayer alert: calling all prayers! I experienced that very situation yesterday when a loved one so precious to me had to undergo a surgical procedure. I sent out my alert to my friends, family, and ministry team: calling all prayers.

Watching my mother wheeled into the operating room was agonizing. Anything can happen. She is my beloved mother. So I walked out into the waiting room alone, yet not alone. My Lord was with me. I knew that. I took great comfort in that. I sat down and prayed for a few moments. Then I heard the alert on my phone. A text message from a friend. “Praying for you and your mother.” Then another message from another friend. “Praying.” Then another message: “God has her in His hands and is watching over her and YOU.”

There is great power in a rainstorm of prayer on our behalf when we are in the agony of a trial requiring every ounce of faith in God and trust in His Word. “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective” (James 5:16). God responds. What a happy moment to look into my mother’s face in the recovery room and know she made it through with flying colors. And her daughter who is still learning to trust and walk on the water with her faith in God also made it through the storm.

More messages came on my phone and in my email. “How is she? How are you?” Concern and care flowed freely from my “Calling All Prayers” team of prayer warriors. I could imagine in my mind each of them alone with God crying out to Him on our behalf. I was humbled by their love and compassion for us. What a happy moment to write the email of answered prayer. The greatest answer came with the grace from God to make it through the rocky waters. The storm may continue to rage, but braving it is possible when we have a community of praying believers helping us stand strong in Christ even in the wind and rain.

So how about you? Have you learned the secret of sending out the alert: “Calling all prayers!” Grab hold of Philippians 4:6-7 and learn the secret of peace in the storm: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

God bless you, dear friend, as you continue on in the great adventure of knowing Him!

Ever feel a bit stuck because you can’t move on from a beautiful place? You just can’t seem to let go of the wonder of the present moment, the cherished possession, or the treasured fellowship. And so you seem to stay in one place for awhile, wondering about your own path in life. What will help you let go, take the bend in the road, and move on in your journey with the Lord?

I experience the difficulty of continuing on every time I come to the end of a study in God’s Word. We have just completed our annual Quiet Time Radio™ & Ministry For Women Fall-Winter online study in the book of Revelation through the quiet times in A Heart To See Forever. More than 200 of us lived in these magnificent promises of eternity for about four months. And when the study ended, I felt a bit “up in the air”, as though I was missing something. At first, even my quiet times felt different without the study, A Heart To See Forever as part of my morning time with God.

I’ve walked this journey many times before. And the Lord has helped me learn some secrets to continuing on with Him. Here is what I’ve learned:

Endings are simply beginnings of something new. Remember God’s promise of the new day. “Behold, I will do something new, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert” Isaiah 43:19. I love this promise. I always think of these words at the end of a study. So get excited about the “something new” that God has for you.

Plan for your quiet time when you are in between Bible studies. God says, “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Quiet time is not an option, it’s an imperative. When I am in between Bible studies, I sit down and think through The P.R.A.Y.E.R. Quiet Time Plan™ — Prepare Your Heart, Read and Study God’s Word, Adore God in Prayer, Yield Yourself To God, Enjoy His Presence, and Rest in His Love. I organize my quiet time materials, open my personal version of The Quiet Time Notebook™, and decide on a new Bible reading plan. These times have been so precious and life-changing for me as I draw near to God in quiet time.

Decide on the next Bible study. What will you study and where will you meet? And whose study will you join or lead? Before I completed A Heart To See Forever, I prayed and asked the Lord for guidance on what was next. The Spirit of God is faithful to lead us into the will of God (Romans 8:14). My next study will be Run Before The Wind — Truths from Acts to Enjoy Life in the Spirit. I can’t wait to dig in to the book of Acts. Spend eight weeks in the book Acts and your life will never be the same!

Maybe you need encouragement to continue on because of other changes in your life or bends in the road. These three secrets will help you move on to the new day God has for you. Remember endings are also beginnings of something new. Draw near to God in quiet time and open the pages of His Word. And join a Bible study to grow deeper in your relationship with God and others.

When you continue on, you will discover great joy in the new thing that the Lord has for you. He has it waiting, just around the corner.

God bless you as you continue on in the great adventure of knowing Him!

Forever with the Lord. Those are the words that give us great hope. Paul said, “And so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:17-18). Steve Green calls heaven his passion and prize, the goal on which he firmly fixes his eyes. Oh friend, today, as I write this final post for our study, A Heart To See Forever, I want to share the wonder and beauty of the place of eternity — heaven.

In Week 9 of A Heart To See Forever, “The Place of Eternity,” we studied the magnificent promises of heaven. We learned that heaven is a new place, a new relationship, a new experience, and a new responsibility. Jesus promised that He was going to prepare a place for us and that where He is, we will be also (John 14:1-3). Everything will be new. And for those of us who may be resistant to change, this newness will be one change you will love. As Paul shared, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered into the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). The newness of forever is a great hope — every tear is wiped from our eyes, there is no longer any death, and no more mourning or crying or pain. Oh the wonder of a place where everything is beautiful, blissful, and blessed forever!

Friend, I don’t know what you are facing today, but I pray that the Lord will give you a heart that can see beyond the here and now all the way to forever. Forever means there is no longer any curse. No evil. All is light. A then there is the Lord — you are always with Him — loving Him, serving Him, and delighting in Him (Revelation 22:3-4). You will see His face and you will reign forever and ever (Revelation 22:4-5).

And now, the final promise from the Lord as He closes the book of Revelation: “Yes, I am coming quickly” (Revelation 22:20). This final “yes” from the Lord is one that fuels those hearts that see forever. They know the time is short until they will see their Lord. And so they say, “Amen. Come Lord Jesus.” Friend, every day, look in to the Word of God and rest in His promises. Then, look up, fixing your eyes on Jesus, and walk with a heart that sees forever until He comes.

The sands of time are sinking, the dawn of heaven breaks
The summer morn I’ve sighed for, the fair sweet morn awakes;
Dark had been the midnight, but dayspring is at hand
And glory — glory dwelleth in Immanuel’s land.

The King there in His beauty, without a veil, is seen;
It were a well-spent journey, though seven deaths lay between.
The Lamb, with His fair army, doth on Mount Zion stand,
And glory — glory dwelleth in Immanuel’s land.

Oh Christ He is the fountain, the deep sweet well of love!
The streams on earth I’ve tasted, more deep I’ll drink above;
There, to an ocean fullness, His mercy doth expand,
And glory — glory dwelleth in Immanuel’s land.

The bride eyes not her garment, but her dear bridegroom’s face,
I will not gaze at glory, but on my King of Grace;
Not at the crown He giveth, but on His pierced hand;
The Lamb is all the glory of Immanuel’s Land.
